GOOD RIDDANCE! I kinda feel sorry for the poor consumers that bought expensive stuff from them this Holiday Season- like a BIG SCREEN HDTV.

Next one I want to go down in flames.... Best Buy (because they still refuse to match online prices).

Sales at CC apparently start tomorrow and run through March 31. We've only got one store left in the area and I might have to check it out sometime next week. Prolly be good to pick up some BD's for a nice price.

Sucks for all the people who are going to be without jobs, though.

OK so I wonder what kind of deals on tv's they will offer? I mean will you be able to haggle with these guys to get a great deal?

I doubt you'll see much of any DRAMATIC DEALS. Like someone else said, they'll do the CompUSA maneuver and go str8 online. Good for us. ZERO TAX.... for now.

As for those that bought expensive items. I'm sure their employees were trained to say: "Got a problem wit' your hardware? Take it with the manufacturer!"

Yeah xplaytendo that's GREAT news, 34,000 employees now are out of jobs and we as consumers have less choices where to shop for electronics. Excuse me if I don't share your enthusiasm

Then why not just buy it online?

I just stopped by CC and they had Rambo 2 or 3 on Bluray for 19.99 it is 9.99 at walmart and 12.99 at best buy. Most of their other movies seemed equally high.

uhh yeah. i take offense to this as well. losing jobs is never a good thing, and if you didn't like the store then why not just avoid going there? if you would please remove your blinders you will realize that the loss of jobs is going to affect you regardless of who you are. i must have had 2 of the best cc's in the world here in oh. because they were far and above the best place to go to shop for high end goods up until a few years ago.

Um I think that was the problem Blade. This happens in reality, weaker companies die because consumers choose the alternative. Another factor was that they went to non commission way too late and were losing money even before the recession hit.

I think they've been in trouble even WAAAY BEFORE the recession hit. Even before DVD became the popular format of choice. The company's GREED goes way back during its creation of DIVX (and goes down in flames).

"However, with Circuit City announcing an $114,000,000.00 loss related to the DIVX enterprise, some marketing decisions can be very, very, costly."

This actually is sad news due to the 35,000 people that will lose their jobs. And in regards to having fewer places to shop I can already envision walmart licking their chops right now.

To keep this more relevant to the board, how will this affect blu-ray? I think it will definitely slow down sales due to fewer places to shop for the software and hardware and one less place that was high-tech centered to display blu-ray advantages.
