Make no mistake. Steve Jobs is the LAST AMERICAN LEGEND. He revived the drowning Apple during its Mac Clone Era. He's the ONLY ONE that revolutionized the company to where it is today.

No other person thinks like him. His discipline & vision is INCOMPARABLE to anyone. He is GOD among Apple Enthusiasts.

And that GOD is very very sick. There is no other person that can run Apple, the way this extraordinary man has run the company. If Steve Jobs dies from his illness, APPLE DIES WITH HIM. The man looks very very sick.

Oh no.

This is very far from the truth and shows a lack of knowledge of Apple as a company. No doubt he has been very important for the re-rise of Apple but to think he isn't expendable is to make him more than he is. Something both the press and mac fans have been very good at. A company isn't better than the team and the people below Steve Jobs are known to be some of the best in the industry.

Another proof that it is the people below him and not so much himself that creates greatness is Pixar. Steve bought Pixar from George Lucas and turned it into what it is today. Since he as left his CEO position in the company. And to say that Pixar has since released bad films or crumpled under Disney ownership - Well, that would be a lie as well.

Lets hope he return but as everybody will realize at some point. No one isn't replaceable.

He's only "GOD" to the mac enthusiasts. And what makes him GOD exactly? The fact that he can whip up a bunch of mac-addicts into a anti Microsoft frenzy and spread disinformation and mucho self promotion? And let's remember, Mac users only represent an EXTREME minority in personal computer users. Just because someone owns an iPod or an iPhone, doesn't make them a mac enthusiast either. 75% of the people who own an iPod, likely don't know who Steve Jobs is. Nor do they care.

I'd like to believe you, Henning. For the sake of the company itself, I wish that's true. But throughout Apple's existence, STEVE JOBS is THE asset. A perfect example of this, was the company's limbo during the early 90's. Another reason is perception- like you said... "press and mac fans".

No doubt, had Steve Jobs refused to return to Apple, APPLE would not be a household name. Mac Clones would replace it instead. Or even worse- a Microsoft hybrid (God help us all).

Yes you mentioned Pixar. Steve Jobs is not the face of Pixar. John Lasseter is the face of Pixar. Steve Jobs only bought the software. John Lasseter made good use of it. Had John Lasseter used a different software to run his animated movies, it would still win awards & make millions for Disney. Pixar will run in good health even if Steve Jobs no longer exist. You can't say that about Apple.

The stocks speak for themselves. Shareholders are even thinking about suing Apple... http://www.nzherald.co.nz/technology/news/article.cfm?c_id=5&objectid=10552196

Spoonard took the words right out of my mouth. Really, if the guy is such a "GOD", then why isn't Apple the MAJORITY in the personal computer industry? Wait . . . let me take a stab at the answer . . . oh boy, this is a tough one . . . oh yeah, EXTREMELY OVERPRICED PRODUCTS!!!!

What Henning said is also very, very true. The bottom line is it takes the "ENTIRE TEAM" to make a company succeed and flourish. Only a MAC enthusiast would give that much credit to ONE guy!

I'm not denying the fact that the perception of the media & its fans about the man... is more than human. But at the same token, that's what's keeping the company afloat (& will eventually bring it down should Steve Jobs can no longer run the company).

Yes, their products are OVERPRICED, but people still buy them. APPLE = ART? Meh! I don't own one... and proud of it!

Yes, the "entire team" improved on the vision that Steve Jobs pushed. Still... it was Steve Jobs that pushed the so-called technological envelope on his 3 main products (overprices as they are). The TEAM answered to Steve Jobs. Had they followed a different person to create similar products... I seriously doubt we would see the same results.

Remember the Mac Clones of the 90's? An idea after Steve Jobs was ejected from Apple. The idea went nowhere.

Apple is very different from what it was when Steve Jobs last left the company.

Also, if Steve Jobs was the only key to success why couldn't he get success with "next"? He had the money and 100% control. They failed.

Last, when I first became a fan of the Mac I did not know who Steve Jobs was I learned that later. I changed because of Mac OS X not because of their hardware or leader. I had finally found a replacement for the MS Windows OS that was giving me more and more grief.

Oh, and about Pixar. The deal had nothing to do with software. Pixar mainly runs (and still does) on their own developed software.

That's because there's actually no point in making Mac Clones today when MACs already come with the Intel chip set. Therefore, if you want to run the MS Winders OS on a MAC, you can do that.
