Could someone in the know please explain to us what exactly is "D-BOX Motion Code"? What does it do, What do you need to do it, and is it worth the effort? Ive seen this on a few BD's advertised as "D-BOX Motion enabled". The latest being "Death Race."

My old 10" subwoofer is made by a company called D Box but I don't think it's the same company although come to think of it, it could be considering these D Box chairs have subwoofers inside them.

I'd like to try one out but I have to say there's nothing like a sub shaking the crap out of your place so EVERYONE watching can feel it.

Well Blade, I'm also curious about the D-Box system and wrote to them to find out a dealer in my area. From what I understand, it's a motion simulator that uses a controller (approx $3500) and specially designed chairs that react to the action on the screen. Custom chairs can range from $4000-$9000 each. They also have a support system (platform) you can attach to existing chairs for about $3000.

I'm planning on getting a demo in the near future and will report my impressions here. From talking with the dealer, this is nothing like having a transducer underneath the couch. Sounds like an interesting piece of HT hardware, but it's not cheap!

I don't have a D-Box system, however I do have two subwoofers and they are built directly into my right and left front speakers.

What I've noticed with certain titles that do have D-Box capability such as "Mirrors" and "Babylon AD" is that the subwoofers actually function more in a surround style. For example, if there's an explosion way off on the left of the screen, only the left subwoofer activates rather than both of them. It doesn't happen all the time, but it was something I've never heard before and I've had the speakers for a few years now.

I'd imagine that D-Box is probably a lot better if you have the proper equipment, but it's kind of nice having D-Box light.

Well guys, finally went to get a D-Box demo today, and overall, it was a bit interesting. As I stated before, the D-Box system will run you over 10k. Is it worth it? Read on.

The dealer put on the opening sequence from Casino Royale (BD). It felt weird to get a jolt when gunshots were fired. Didn't exactly match the onscreen action if you ask me. Some hand to hand fight sequences made the chair rock, and of course, explosions rocked the seat (in much the same manner a transducer would). Overall, the effect felt "gimmicky." Did it add to the film experience? YES. Was it worth $10k? Not really.

I think you get more "bang for the buck" by adding a traditional transducer and attaching it to the floor, sofa, etc. A transducer is only several hundred dollars as opposed to thousands of dollars. Add an amplifier and you're done. No need to purchase $9k chairs. Also, the transducer adds to low-end bass, such as explosions and simply enhances the on screen visuals. The D-Box motion codes also does this, but some effects are a bit of a distraction (some motion queues were totally unexpected).

Anyone interested in D-Box should email them to find the nearest dealer. I would like to hear what others think.
