I've always hated their high auto insurance rates and now they are dropping Florida resident's house insurance because the state wouldn't allow them to raise our rates by 47%. Screw them and good riddens. I will drop my small health package and auto insurance with them as well when this occurs. I hope we all drop those to show that we are sick of em. Florida insurance is bad enough but after all the hurricanes we had they doubled our rates for two years and the state had to put a stop to them.

It's an insurance company, did you actually expect them to be fair to the consumer?

You will be getting a letter in the mail. I just got it yesterday. They made the statement on Tuesday. They said that over the next 2 years they will be dropping all house insurance accounts. Because of this, Legislature are trying to pass a law that only allows insurance companies to drop 2% of customers per year.

The only reason I have them is that with all the insurances together they give you a discount which makes the insurance affordable. Auto insurance is too high otherwise, thus many of us Floridians will drop them altogether when this event happens if it does. They may smarten up.

All State (State Farms little sister) also dropped me a few years ago from coverage for windstorm and flooding. I live in houston texas (shout out to hendrix) and I guess they were nervous after what happened in Louisiana a few years back. I do live close to the coast but I live in a newer area that is higher up than other parts of the coast (thus no flooding threat) and far enough away to where hurricane winds are reduced somewhat before hitting. Not to mention my house is built with windstorm certification which means it can handle up to a cat 2. It did pretty well after Ike. There were alot of houses that did pretty bad in houston due to the fact that they were so far from the coast that the building codes don't factor hurricane winds into their equations. Thus if a storm carries strong winds beyond the coast the houses get torn up pretty good. (Which is what happened with ike)

I went ahead and switched to Farmers. They seemed to understand that my area really wasn't as high a risk area for storm damage as others. All State didn't seem to care. One thing that ticks me off about these insurance companies is the fact that you can pay your premium for years and years and not have any claims but when the moment arises that you need help they want to act like they are broke. Even with all of the fires in california and the hurricane damage in the south over the past few years Americans have been faithfully paying premiums for decades before this happened. So all of a sudden the insurance companies are broke? Did madoff give them counsel on how to invest their resources.

Chem, that is what truly pissed me off as well. A guy at my work place was pissed because he said he's been paying them for over 40 years and now they are dropping him. Companies these days enjoy the flow of money until they have to pay up and then they close shop saying "Thanks for your money folks, we are outa here". Basicaly they are saying they didn't save any money but built there money sucking business up too large and cant pay when they are suppose to.
