Not only does this big-headed Olympian Phelps gets caught bonkin' a bong, he also admits that it's HIM on the photo!
You get the Skydouche Award of the day... and no one gets that award easy, bub!

Tyler, not to argue your post, but are you sure this "News of the World" site is just a fake story cooker like the "National Inquirer" or "Star" magazine? It shows Phelps apology dated clear back in January 2nd, 2009. Had this been something of fact, then it would be all over the respectable media we're used to seeing (NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, CNN, etc.), but I have heard nothing about this until you posted it here. If anything, Nancy Grace of CNN would be all over this like a fly on a pile of crap! Not to mention, the photo is completely unrevealing and very difficult to tell it's Phelps. IMO, it could be a picture of any average college Joe, as it is a side shot and hard to tell if it really is Phelps.

In one hand, if it is true, then it does upset me that he would be that stupid to ruin his career. On the other hand, he's a youngster that is acting no different than any other college kid out there. Why society finds some kind of natural need to feel shocked about kids partying and smoking pot just appalls me! What kills me is most these idiots that come up with the rules on what athletes should have the right to do, or what not to do, probably did the same crap when they were in college! The world is full of a bunch of hypocrites that think they have the right to decide what's right for the rest of us. So what if he took a bong hit, I really don't know many people that have not, even several times throughout their life. It kills me why so many fundamentalists and "right-wingers" have to make such a big issue of this! Look, if the Chinese can get away with having under age athletes, than I think a few natural liberties that so many youngsters take can be overlooked, as well. IMO, this is a bunch of BS!

You know what, I TRULY HOPE that this news is a hoax, but I've yet to see any "gotcha" catchphraise to contradict this story.

It's a BIG LIABILITY for this tabloid to issue this negative report. In fact, it could easily cost him his medals. On that note, give the "risk factor" behind this so-called "leak." Would this tabloid medium RISK GETTING ROYALLY SUED?

I have no idea. I'm actually upset that I can EASILY see this teenage olympian, from making this mistake. Simply because... he's still very much a kid.

Again, the story just broke out today. If this is true, and the Phelps camp do not bring them to court on this... his career is truly in jeopardy.

Who knows... maybe in 24 hours, we get a "Surprise, just kidding!" follow-up to this story (I doubt it).

Yeah, no $h!t... I've yet to see those toddlers stripped of their medals. Again, dust the dirt under the rug to get better "relations" with the Communist Party.

Tyler, no, the story is already a month old. Go back to the site and look at the date it was issued. It says "By Georgina Dickinson, 01/02/2009", that would be an entire month ago, yet I've heard nothing from the respected media we are all used to. IMO, I think the story has to be a fake, and I hope to God it is!

If it is on a Euro type of dating system, then yes, it would be Day/Month/Year, but how the hell would Phelps deliver an apology on the same day it was posted? Do you really think the response would be that quick considering the guy really wouldn't know about it in the last 12-hours? I think not! It's looking pretty fake, IMO. And again, the photo is weak and looks like any average college student, at this point.

Yeah, I saw that. Then I'm thinking: It's Europe. Some countries post their date sequence as day/month/year. Then again, I looked below the article, and the posted comments go as far back as Jan. 31st 2009.

Then again, the posted comments ONLY GOES as far back as Jan 31st 2009. If the story was published on 01/02/2009, where's the older feedback comments dating about the same time as the article was published?

So I googled "Phelps bong" and the article links were created on or after Jan 31st, 2009.

Agreed. Granted that I don't see any articles defending Phelps on the exposure, maybe my Headline Thread should've read a bit less one-sided. Well, there you go... open up a flaming thread & I'm sure I'll get the blunt of that blow.

On the other hand... I'd rather get the irate feedbacks, than actually realize that this story is true.

Yes, but as I pointed out, how the hell could the guy admit and deliver an apology that fast? It would take days for him and his management to look at the photo and accusations before they'd even make a move. This just doesn't add up no matter how you look at it. I can only hope it's a complete fake.

Yep, it must be true, it's already made it to MSNBC! How sad, but I still feel it shouldn't be made such a big deal of. For god sake, let kids be kids! It's sure OK when people in entertainment get away with this shit, but oh no! Athletes are not allowed! That sucks, IMO. If we're going to look down on drug use among athletes, then the same rules should apply for EVERYONE!!! The world is full of hypocrites running everything and it needs to stop!

Wishful thinking, Tim... wishful thinking.

And people wonder why I watch more cartoons than prime time dramas or tv news. With cartoons, I could at least take comfort in the fact knowing that- I'm watching FICTION.
