I just downloaded the KILLZONE 2 demo via the Playstation Store. The whole 1.2gig download was extremely fast seeing as I have downloaded large demos before and it took forever. The game it's self is stunning beacuse you cannot tell where the cut scene ends and the game begins (the graphics are that fluid). I am so used to playing Enemy Territory: Quake Wars that the intense battle that started on stage one was a bit much but I quickly took control and was ready. Did I mention that the graphics are outstanding even for a game as dark as this. When you kill enemies they fall with such grace that you can all most hear symphony music playing. The sad thing is that there is only one level (well only one that I saw) not the rumored 2.

Now for the game play. Like I said before I'm use to playing ET:QW and have gotten quite spoiled with the ease of aiming and shooting. KZ2 will take sometime to get used to. The assult rifle will sling your aim all over the place if you are using the sight on the weapon. So suttle re-adjustments of the sight are needed when firing. The enemeies are pretty smart, certainly not like on ET:QW but they will hand you your lunch if you are not careful and will keep you on your toes. There are no gauges to tell you how much life and ammo you have but trust me you do have an ammo count that appeares every now and then. The one thing I love about ET:QW is that you had a map and on that map you had where your objectives are. On KZ2 there is no such thing and sometimes you wonder hopelessly around looking for your objective. That was a BIG turn off. There are no on-line gameplay features as you would expect from newer demos that are now out like Resident Evil 5.

As far as sound goes, I know that the full game is PCM 7.1 but as far as this demo goes I don't know but it sounded great. My system in configured for 7.1 so I'll look into this some more.

If I were to score this demo base on what to expect from the full version the jury is still out. So much was missing from the demo like other weapons and the much talked about lightning effects and other enemies and the alll important on-line play. If graphics are your thing than by all means it's a must, but I would rent it first rather than buy.

Wow that's great they are offering the demo now, I will download tonight!

Up until now, I have yet to find a FPS that can replace my addiction to Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare, maybe this will be the one!

So how much do you get to play, is it only a single player level?

Steveo,

Hold your horses I neglected to mention that in order to get the demo you have to reserve a copy from GAMESTOP. If you drop $5 on a pre-order than they will give you a code to access the demo at the PS Store. Yea, it sucks but was worth it. This is one time I have to agree with SONY haters. This was very stupid. Yes it's only a single player level and 3 short missions. 1st mission is to take out a bridge second is to secure an area and thrid is to hack some elevator. Just when it starts to get really juicy it ends.

Jeez!

Only probably the biggest exclusive PS3 game of the year (unless God of War gets released this year...) and they limit their exposure by making the demo exclusive to pre-orders? If I preorder the game, then I'm clearly not on the fence about buying the thing, I thought demos were supposed to attract new buyers?

Oh well, just finished Fallout3, maybe I'll go down to the local GS and trade it towards a preorder... no use waiting for Fallout DLC to come to PSN

This is really really stupid. I was actually looking forward to playing a demo of this game before buying.

However, I'm not surprised. The Playstation Store really needs to learn from the competition and no, demos should be free. I could understand a "pre-order and get it before" strategy but to keep it from the general public is just plain stupid.

Now I will go play my free and available demo of Halo Wars instead

Iagree Henning,

As much as I love the PS3 this really is backwards thinking. My only logic is that SONY thinks that Halo Wars is just another HALO and that KZ2 willl be the benchmark for next gen games. After all it is 2nd on th AMAZON pre-release list and will be a world wide demo 2/26/09 a day before the release date, but and this is HUGE but it's misssing some important factors that hyped the game. Like I said "I was left wantimg more because what I got was good."

Cool, I'm glad that they decided to at least release a demo.

My guess is that it will be a very good game but I'm not sure that it will create that big numbers. Oh, and a Halo game is never "just another." This game (even though it is a strategy game) could sell more than KillZone 2 - never underestimate the Halo franchise.

We will see. I might end up picking both up.

Hey Tony

Did a little research last night and I found out since the demo is available in Europe, there's a backdoor way of getting it.

All you need to do is create a new user on the PS3, then register the user as living in the UK (or someother European country) after you finish, you can sign onto the Europe PS Store and download it for free.

I just used a fake name and boom got the demo! After all that though, I'm so disappointed it's so short! I think it lasted maybe 5 mins? But still an amazing game, guess I will have to buy it.

Steveo, it's been mentioned that the first fewminutes of the game is about 2 gigs. But yes it is too short of a demo.
