Hey Guys,

Passchendaele, just hit DVD, and Blu-Ray last week. I have noticed that knowone has reviewed it thus far. It is a Canadian film, so I thought that might be the reason. I watched it on release day, and loved it. It's no Hollywood blockbuster, but the story the acting and the plot, at least I though really well done by CDN actor Paul Gross. He Acts, Directs, and help produced the movie. He took it one step further and shot it Calgary (I think his home town), and recreated the Passchedaele battlefield just out side of Calgary. If you guys have a chance to see it, pick it up! Yes, you guys get to see how well the CDN's played out against the Germans. LOL

Argg... an embarrassment to Canadian film IMO, especially considering the relatively high budget - much of which came from us taxpayers. There are many way better Canadian films made in the last year, considering Passchendaele was by far the worst.

ALERT! SPOILERS.....

Paul Gross looked to be competing with William Shatner for corny over-acting. There were just too many specific examples of unbelievable dialogue and scenes in this crap to list. But speaking of corny, that awful scene with the guy on the "cross" with the Jesus pose while the Germans cease-fire while Gross carries and stumbles back with it almost made my wife and I throw up. And we have strong stomachs!

This piece of total crap took 20 million to make, and I want my tax money back!

Well, I am a sucker for Canadian war films and I will be picking this up as soon as I get a chance.

I am probably the only person who ordered the complete video series from the War Amp Society...yeah, I am that engrossed with the Canadian war efforts.

BTW - At the end of WWII, Canada had the world's third largest Navy.

OMG, Thank You R-U Serious! Once again Skyhawk is up to his negative bashing about everything not Sony...

No Offence Skyhawk, Passchendaele was a good movie. Who cares, if the grants came out of our pockets? Really we are trying to promote Canadian workers and studios for the record... God! Man are you stupid? There is a shit load of talent in this country that deserves better than you shitty ass attitude! It took over two years to perfect and write a decent script by one person, without outside influence from Hollywood. I have no problem with that. If you were ready to puke, why don't you move back to the Philippines, and see puke on the streets... What kind of Canadian are you?

Pathetic...

I thought so...

"PS for the record, I'm sorry moderators and Henning for using this form of language, but Shyhawk deserves a swift kick in the behind

Yes, I work in this industry, but I agree that this movie could have been so much better. Everybody knows that Canadian cast & crew are talented. Whether it's this crappy movie or a crappy American movie shooting here it doesn't make much difference. If we want truly Canadian films to do well we have to start giving the money to good Canadian films and not just to people who know the people handing out the money (which is what Paul Gross is).

As somebody who has had first hand experience with the film funding system in this country I can tell you that it is a joke. The money is handed out to friends of the people who sit on the boards of the various funding organizations, even if these friends have no talent what so ever, and usually a lot of the better projects never get off the ground or are totally butchered by a lack of money.

Taxpayer dollars are being wasted in this country. We need more funding for the arts, yes I totally agree. But we also need to eliminate the gross (pun intended) conflicts of interest that cause the money that is currently being put in to be spent on crappy films that have little artistic or commercial value.

If we start concentrating on making good Canadian films rather that 'any Canadian films at all' the industry will eventually become self sustaining and not rely on public funding so much. We also need to concentrate on getting Canadian films wider distribution so that they can actually be seen rather than just funding their production and then dumping them in 2 tiny theatres where nobody will see them.

Well in some cases to survive outside to the Hollywood shell a movie might get released in a film festival or two crappy theatres. Grosses plan of attack to fund his movie was his choice. Hey the Liberals funded their own companies and pocketbooks for years and most Canadian just shrugged their shoulders. You two are worried about one film?

The whole topic of discussion was wondering if anyone at this site reviewed the movie. That was all. I'm glad the both of you have to drag in negative connotations’.

I am however suspicious to the similarities between Skyhawk and the dvd chefs posts? What do you think Tim?, posters5?

If you read my post I was talking about a systemic problem.

Yes! OMG you guessed it! We are the same person. We/I created two user accounts and made them argue over various topics to establish that they are different people. My mistake came of course about a year later when I made the two accounts agree on something. Damn! I'll just have to try harder to fool you next time.

EDIT:
God, people need to learn how to use question marks properly.

The only thing this high budget piece of crap had going for it were some expensive American style battle scenes. Otherwise it was so embarrassingly cheesy, I pray that no one else outside the country sees it. This shallow pretentious junk doesn't even match the quality of a mediocure Canadian movie.

I care if my tax dollar is used to promote this garbage, rather than the multitude of great Canadian films out there that are released every year that for some odd reason aren't supported the way they should be!

I'm obviously the type of Canadian who has better tastes in film than you do, and the type of Canadian who doesn't childishly insult others simply because they disagree about how good a movie is.

Grow the fvk up, you baby.
