Woo Hoo...well, it may not be on HD-DVD as I had hoped for, but I can live with Kirk and Spock on Blu-ray...now, bring on Generations and the rest of the Picard Treks

They better release Generations and First Contact separately because I'm not going to be forced to buy a box-set that includes Star Trek: Insulting and Star Trek: Nothingness.

I'm mostly with you on that. Release the movies individually and in a box set (us completists want everything). However, there are things to recommend about both "Insulting" and "Nothingness": the former has some gorgeous location work and the latter makes me cry at the end every time.

Yes, forcing people to buy complete box sets is not the way to go.

Sadly it seems more and more a trend with Blu-ray in the US.

Godfather Trilogy
Batman Movies
Bourne Movies
and now Star Trek

Just to name a few.

Yeah, remember when these movies came out on VHS and you had to collect all of them to form a picture of the Enterprise when you put them on the shelf next to each other? That was a hell of a better passive way to motivate people to buy all of them.

Still, in this case I don't mind because I would have bought all six anyway. I can't say the same for the TNG movies though.

^ I think that's a bit unfair. The original Godfather set on DVD came out in 2001 and the standalones didn't hit until 2005. Besides, Paramount will have the individual releases before too long...as will Warner with Batman, Universal with Bourne and so on.

Bourne on Blu was a huge seller the week it came out, proving people will pay for an entire franchise even if one movie is lacking.

Do not despair. I'm sure that eventually some enterprising dude will break up the box sets and sell the individual disks on e-bay. Personally, I want them all so it is not an issue with me.

I'd also like to see "Enterprise" on BD but that ain't about to happen.

StevePro...

Enterprise, aside from TOS, is the most likely candidate for BD treatment next. The masters are already 16:9, the effects presumably rendered for HD. If the TOS sets sell well, all Paramount would have to do is slap the discs together and they have yet another ST revenue stream. Heck, I don't care for Enterprise, but I'd grab it on BD if the opportunity presented itself.

I just hope, when any other series comes out, the art is as classy as the TOS S1 package.
