So I just got WALL-E on Blu-Ray, and i have one noticable hitch. Right after the Pixar logo, the sound, and I believe playback in general skips at the very opening. Could this mean I got a bad disc? Or could it be my player?

I assume it does the same thing in the same spot each time you try it?

I don't have the disc to test, but usually an audio drop-out indicates a faulty disc, a scratched disc, or a dirty disc. It may be something as simple as a piece of lint on the disc surface. Try gently cleaning it and playing it again. If that doesn't work, you could try it on another player. If the same thing happens, you can be pretty sure it's a problem with the disc. Exchanging the disc is the next step.

Very occasionally, a player could be at fault or a cable, but that's less likely than the individual disc itself. It's also possible that a whole production run of discs could be faulty, but if that were the case, we'd probably have heard about it from other people by now.

I have the Wall-E 3 disc (don't know if that makes a difference) and I have no issues at all. I use a PS3 for playback.

Can you try it on another bluray player like maybe a friends? If the options John suggested don't help then it may be a faulty disc.

That's what I'm thinking John, thank you. Well, if it's any consolation, I just got the player - Samsung 1500. Furthermore, yes it's the same place everytime. Yeah, the disc is probably faulty so I'm going to exchange it soon. As far as I know, it's been playing my other two movies well - Dark Knight and Iron Man.

MrCzech, try a firmware update on your bluray player if one is available. If your player has the latest firmware try re-installing it if that's possible. Sometimes updating the firmware fixes these playback issues.

John I went through playback issues with Star Wars The Clone Wars DVD. I had three faulty discs from Walmart amd nobody else had heard of any problems. I wonder if these issues are because the movies are released in a rush to get them out?

well... i exchanged the disc one, and the same problem occured at the same place. so i did call samsung to troubleshoot. it was determined that the problem was not really with the player. so i called disney tech support, and they said that they will evaluate it on their end, and they would send me a fresh copy. great news is that i will get a second digital copy!

If the soundtrack had dropped out entirely, it would have helped that film.
