For those of you that don't have a problem with BETA software be sure to check out Safari 4.

They just announced a public BETA today and boy this thing is fast. In fact Apple claims that it is faster than Google Chrome.

I have not done enough testing to support that claim but it sure is a cool browser.

So, be sure to check it out at:

It sure is and renders the site beautifully. See how far you can go when you support standards.... Just saying.

Most importantly, does this mean we should expect a new update for the iPhone's Safari??

I really hope Firefox is working on an iPhone App... ever since Apple decided that maybe it is okay for third party developers to make Internet Apps.

IMO, and coming from a web designer's point of view, it's just another pain in the ass browser I have to comply with. You think designing around IE6 is bad, I've found Safari is just as much of a pain.

Well, if you code to the CSS and HTML standards you will get a great result on Safari (much better than IE6.) From my experience (developed web sites the last 12 years) the problem with Safari comes when people deviate from standards and start to follow what Microsoft thinks is the standard.

Top that with that IE6 is slow on feature rich sites, not secure and I'm quite sure invented by the devil.

Also,

CNET has tested this browser when it comes to speed:
Quote:
....for quick reference we determined on a PC that Safari was a whopping 42 times faster than Internet Explorer 7, just over six times faster than Internet Explorer 8, 3.5 times faster than Firefox 3, and 1.2 times faster than Google Chrome. Here's Safari versus the rest, excluding IE 7:

Impressive!
