So a couple days ago, I saw this silly science fiction movie entitled "The visitor", apparently about a pilot who comes back after 50 years without aging and is immediately chased by the CIA according to the description. Sounds recordable to me!

So we watched our recording tonight. Turns out it was Richard Jenkins in a drama about him finding these illegal immigrants occupying his apartment while he was away. A 2007 movie that honestly escaped my radar for some reason. Jenkins was amazing in this movie. The guy deserves and Oscar for that performance - and I suspect the director too (whom I haven't looked up yet). It's rare that I can't say anything "really" bad about a movie. This is one of those rare times.

I know I might be teased about being in a cave during 2007/08, so forgive me if this movie actually did earn a bunch of Academy awards. Well deserved in my opinion!

Skyhawk,

Jenkins did indeed get an Oscar nomination for his role, but lost to Sean Penn. The Visitor was not nominated for any other major award.

It made my top ten for the year...and I'm not ashamed to say Haaz Sleiman is one good looking guy.

Thanks, Jason I didn't know. Considering we were expecting a regular guts, horror, and alien sexual violation film according to the cable TV guide description, it threw us off a bit.

I really enjoyed the film, even if the end left a bit of hanging elements that I wish were better resolved.... grrr!

Yes, it's quite a good picture. But I think it flew under most people's radar because as Sky points out, its title seems to indicate something different than it is. Plus, Richard Jenkins is hardly a household name, despite his being a terrific character actor for many years.
