Has anyone noticed that floor space given to Blu-ray is being reclaimed?

In the UK I've noticed a couple of Tesco supermarkets that used to have a BD section have removed it and filled the gap with SD DVDs. I've also seen a WH Smith do the same.
I should point out that they both still have BD titles on their online sites and by no means have stopped supporting the format. Also I believe individual store managers have some control over what they stock so again I'm not saying all Tesco stores have removed them from the shelves.

I've noticed the same thing at my local Wal-Mart it's not that they are giving it less space. They are just not restocking it and the selection keeps getting smaller and smaller. Best Buy on the other hand has added space. They use to only have 2 rows now they have 4 rows.

My local walmarts only have two or three blu ray players in stock since Christmas. I hardly call that a support of Blu Ray. Also, when they sell out of a new BD movie they do not restock it.

Same here. Wal*Mart has very slim pickins' but BB has doubled their space and is well stocked.

The Walmarts I've been to in Arizona all have one small row, neither containing a huge selection and they are about as overpriced as all the other retail chains when it comes to new releases.

Not the same here. They used to have Blu-ray branded shelving. All this is gone and gap replace with SD content. In store there is now no mention of Blu-ray.

I was in barnes & Noble the other day and their Blu-ray is expanding. I was impressed. Their prices are atrocious, but I found 2 Blu-rays that I have not seen elsewhere (The Cure-Trilogy & District B13) for a reasonable price, plus I have a 10% membership discount. They also have the Criterion Blus which my BB does not carry.

BB however always seems to have just one row dedicated to Blu-ray, only one side of the aisle though, not the whole row. They usually have new releases, but when Event Horizon and Days of Thunder were released, they did not carry them. I had to go to another one to pick them up.

Overall, I think it will take some time before Blu-ray sees as much space as DVD does..I mean, think of the sheer number of DVDs that are released compared to the number of Blu-rays. Its shelf space will grow over time.

We can all see how many movies have been planned for the future...I think Blu is hear to stay for sure.

I have been to box stores, discount department stores and specialty stores all over the Greater Toronto Area.

What I have found is the box stores, Best Buy and Future Shop are shrinking their over all video offerings to make room for more video games

The discount department stores, Walmart and Zellers...well Walmart's Blu sections haven't seen much upkeep in a long time...aside from a couple of new releases, there has been no catalog updating...heck, most of the stores still have all their Blu's sitting on an end cap display! Zellers, hell they can't even spell Blu-ray, let alone carry any.

The specialty stores fare a lot better...specifically the ones that cater to the videophile in us. Even the local HMV mall stores are doing a decent job.

But I fear with all of this, Blu-ray is destined to remain a videophile niche market at best...like LD before it...
