Out of the box price: PS3 (80 GB) $399. Xbox 360 Arcade $199. Nintendo Wii $249.

Wi-Fi: PS3 included. Xbox 360 Arcade $100 add-on. Nintendo Wii included.

Hard-Drive: PS3 included (80GB). Xbox 360 Arcade $100-$150 add-on(60GB-120GB). Ninteno Wii not available.

Online gaming service: PS3 free. Xbox $50 per year. Wii limited.

Total cost: Sony Ps3 $399. Xbox $449-$499. Wii $ 249.

*Please note that Built in Blu-ray support for the PS3 is not mentioned*.

More info:
Electronic analysis and research company "i Suppli" has revealed several fascinating pieces of data about the hard unit cost of the PS3, and particularly, how those "insides" have streamlined to bring down the hard unit cost of each PS3.

Most dramatically, the so-called "second generation" PS3s contain only 2,820 individual parts-down from the 4,048 found in the 60 GB launch version-at an estimated cost of $448.73 to produce, as opposed to the original $690.23. So while Sony is still selling the system at a loss, these lower production costs make a price drop (or system sales profitability) a far more realistic possibility.

I was just looking at the best buy add for this week and it makes no mention of the PS3. It showed xbox 360, Wii and all there games but no ps3. They usually have the PS3 in there 2 to 3 times with all the video gaming systems then the Blu ray players and a sony special package page. Do you guys think something is up?

The PS3 will never make a profit for Sony. It's sales numbers have been in decline for over a year probably with small surges (in comparison tot he other consoles) during the holiday seasons. As of right now, the PS3 has NOTHING going for it. The release of an A list game once or twice a year does NOT help it. Xbox is getting games left and right and exclusive ones at that. Now that it has been finalized that Tekken and FFXIII are no longer PS3 exclusives, do you really think that MGS alone can float the platform? No, it can't. What about Blu-Ray you say? Well, now that you can buy Blu-Ray players for $150-$200 the proverbial goose is cooked.

Yes. Simply put the ps3 is not selling. And yes to the technophiles like us the ps3 is a great deal compared to the 360 but to the average joe who doesn't care about a blu-ray player and just wants to play games the 360 or wii is a much better deal right now.

spoonard,
the ps3 is actually catching up to the 360 in terms of quality exclusive titles. killzone2, god of war3, resistance1-2, uncharted1-2, little big planet, gran turismo5, the rachet and clank series, metal gear, and they also have the great jak and daxter in the pipeline as well. As far as I can tell, and please correct me if i am wrong. xbox really only has, halo series, gears of war, and forza as great exclusive titles. and then ofcoarse xbox live. as far as all the other great games out there or coming soon, they can be played on both systems.

Fable II, Left 4 Dead (not big but a ton of fun) and downloadable content for GTA IV, Fallout 3 comes to mind. Top that with much better arcade titles and many players online.

The problem with Sony's math is that while it is true people will always look at entry price and content. You can also use the same logic on Apple products if you compare each component of their high end computers to other brands like HP and Dell. However, many still think Apple is much more expensive.
