So I was driving by the local CC and sall the 90% off sign and I had to stop. Yea I got a couple of Blu Ray movies at 50% a couple of weeks ago, but I had not been in there since. One foot in the door summed it all up. Empty, bleak and depressing. Look I was never a big fan of CC, but it is just a sign of our times, you know the whole economy in the shitter thing. It really made me feel lucky that I have a good job and I am able to buy a few toys and still provide a lot for my wife and daughter. I mean this was a new store that had not even reached it's one year anniversery(July 3 2009), actually they just relocated down over the hill from the original store site. So now we have 2 empty CC buildings that are about one mile from each other.
No I did not buy anything, I mean there was really nothing left. As I walked across the parking lot, I witnessed a local plumbing company hovering outside of the store. I did not know wether they were there to take out shelving or to basically turn the store off. I stopped before I got in my car to take one last look at that CC sign on the front of the block building. As I drove away I swear I heard TAPS being played from some outside source(OK I know I got that from A Christmas Story but it felt appropriate) and I said to myslef never more never more.........R.I.P Circuit City

I think one of the hardest things about this recession compared to others is watching huge, well known, and popular businesses take a dump! As much as some of us hate the big guy, or "The Man", need to realize that losing some popular retail chains hurts the economic structure and consumer choices in retail. What's sad in any of these cases is the loss of jobs and how it affects family.

As much as I can't stand Sony, I really wouldn't want them to take a dive right now in this economy, and my concern would be for those people who are just trying to keep food on the table. Nevertheless, as IB said, it's a sign of the times. However, that "sign of the times" has gotten way beyond scary! I know this because I recently got laid off and worked for a company that relied on big corporations to keep afloat. Now that I'm in the unemployment line, I've been shopping my resume in other states just to keep my options high. I've even considered accepting work in the communist country of Canada! Yeah, that's how bad it's become.

Don't feel bad Tim, you aren't alone. I live in a GM state, of which I use to make a good living. The middle class has been wiped out and the building will fall. There are no jobs to replace the manufacturing sect. that we lost. Think of all those people out there with an 8th grade education. Where are they going to go? Shit, I never went to college because I partied too much and didn't want to waste my parents money. So, I got the "family" job of working for GM and thought that I would be good for life. Well, that wasnt the case and now I am stuck here in this dead town with only a high school diploma to fall back on, and a trade that isnt in demand anymore because it is in China/Mexico. The Airline industry is in big trouble too, Pensions and life savings are gone, and nobody can stop it. Throwing money at car manufacturers who can't sell last years model is insane, however they are still going to do it! Hows about giving that money to us so WE can fix the problem?

Costa rica in the jungle? BTW, I'm going there in a few months... so I thought I'd post a comment regardless.

I can't wait to be honest. It's one of the few countries that have put any value in its natural resources in being natural. If that makes any sense.

You mean the only capitalist country left in the northern hemisphere? You forget we have the conservative Harper and do not nationalize our banks and and other free market corporations like you do... right?

Don't worry Raynor, I'm not like you to ridicule and hope that certain people who post here and their families suffer. So I hope things end up OK for you and your family, and that you find a replacement job or contract soon.

Good luck dude!

Circuit City would like to thank the millions of customers who have shopped with us during the past 60 years. Unfortunately, we announced on January 16, 2009, that we are closing our stores.

For answers to your questions about the store liquidation process, please view the FAQs available at liquidation.circuitcity.com

CircuitCity.com is also temporarily closed, although we anticipate the website will reopen in the coming weeks. Please check back for updates.

I found out about two weeks ago my company is going out of business as well (Virgin Megastores) ..4 years at one of the coolest retailers ever.. Talk about depressing seeing how drum CC looked and knowing that our store will look the same. Just to make it worse my dog had a stroke the next day (slowly recovering atm) and I had to get my wisdom teeth out all in the same week!
