After a few months of not buying any HD DVD's i decided to check out what was still available. At £2.99 (hmv.com) Tremors was a steal (my old DVD copy is not widescreen), however for an older movie what a f**kin good looking HD DVD this is!! Get on it if you havn't got it, cos its also a damn fine movie as well.

Is this the movie about the underground worm in the middle of nowhere?

I can't bare to watch it again although I'm sure it's a much better experience in HD.

I'll admit that Tremors is pure cheese, but it's one of my guilty pleasures. Yeah the plot is stupid but it doesn't take itself seriously and it's run time is short enough that it doesn't wear out it's welcome and compared to the awful sequels the first one is Oscar Caliber.

OK, you persuaded me. It is a cool little film, and the HD DVD is selling for under five bucks from a number of Amazon second-party sites. I ordered it.

I bought it for $32.99 when it was released on HD-DVD. The edge enhancement and sharpening is so distracting and terrible on this film, the experience was disappointing to say the least. You may be better off with the original DVD version until a new transfer is created for this title.

I have the Tremor four pack(I've only seen the first two). Yeah, I know, can you believe there are four movies? The first was cheesy greatness though.

I have Tremors on HD DVD too but thought it looked bad(I'll give it another chance though as I only watched a couple scenes). Waterworld on HD DVD was disappointing to me too. Not much clearer than DVD. Oh and the Waterworld extended dvd wasn't crisp either.

Cheesy flick...

but I love it.

I think the HD DVD (I have it) looks pretty darn good.

Loved the movie and I did not find the edge enhancement to big of a deal.

At $3 it is a steal.

I didn't even notice that the edge enhancement is excessive (ignorance is bliss, I guess) when I watched it several months ago. It looked pretty good to me.

That was a joke, right? I just spot checked both and there is no comparison whatsoever. The HD DVD looks 10 times sharper and clearer and has much better color saturation. Furthermore, the DVD isn't even anamorphic.

The fact is, the HD DVD picture quality is not as good as some people say it is and not as bad as others say it is.

If you pause the film and inspect the image, you can see that almost every object on screen has a white or black halo on the edges. Is it "excessive"? Not unless you have an enormous screen and/or are sitting too close, or unless you know it's there, and it bugs you to death just knowing it.

I was more aware of the occasional moire effects, the flickering and shimmering that show up at times, than the edge enhancement. Otherwise, the PQ is bright, sometimes brilliant, and from a normal viewing distance (1 1/2 to 1 3/4 times the diagonal size of the screen) quite sharp.
