Well since most of you do not agree with copying and downloading of movies, I thought I'd share a tidbit with you. Lately I have been kinda fed up with the Blu-Ray releases, due to the amount of excessive adverts on these disks. So, I have been renting or borrowing the DVD equivalents. For example, I rented Wall-E on DVD, and soon disocvered that Disney threw some type of crazy security/encrption to block copying it. Totally messed up. I tried a few peices of software too... weird. let me know the secret if you have...

In the same day after borrowing the same movie on Blu-Ray, it was easier to rip and burn the BR version quicker and simpler than the DVD version. Hey I'm not complaining other than that of watching all the BS adverts on the BR disks. And you BR clones wanted HD DVD to Die... Dumb Assess...

But why was it easier to get the BR version over the DVD version? Truly Sad...

All I know is that when I put a Blu-Ray disc in to my PS3, and see an advertisement for Blu-Ray... I get pissed. I mean... seriously. I -have- the hardware and software. You don't need to sell me on it any further. Also. Thanks for telling me not to pirate the movie that I purchased.

mike37: The blu-ray adverts are there for when people show-off their new setups to other people, consider it an intro for all that HD joy that follows. It's almost the same stuff that SONY pumps out to retailers selling HDTV's.

You could find DVD adverts on VHS AND DVD's early when it came out.

As for piracy, unless ur doing a 1:1 copy of the movie, there's no point. There are truckloads of torrents offering blu-ray rips out there @ 720p or 1080p, they're everywhere from 4 gigs to 16gigs and they look kind of pathetic. Sure, a 1080p download might seem better than your 19 bucks DVD, but the sound on these stuff is compressed, so is the bitrate.

Take this for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--N9klJXbjQ&hd=1&feature=hd

That is supposed to be HD.

So unless you wanna waste 50gigs on your HD for one movie, i suggest you put the disc in the player, go in the kitchen, make some pop-corn, and by the time you're back it'll be in the main menu already.

And what makes you think a 'format' has anything to do whether the movie forces you to watch commercials before the feature? Don't you think if Disney produced HD-DVDs that they wouldn't be doing the same thing? C'mon man, stop being so bitter...

Being bitter has nothing to do with it. Did you buy into HD DVD? Have you tried comparing the HD DVD VS BLU comparison? Considering 5 to 8 GIG's on a Blu disk is advertising, I'd say that they have bent you over as well. No more additional time has been spent on uncompressing, and acheiving more out of the space. That is what I find frustrating. I'm all for quality, and performance. Too bad we are not seing the full potential yet.

No complaining, but pointing out how stupid they are. Consider this, It is easier to copy the BR disk, then not be able to copy the DVD version but yet they give you a Digital Copy of the movie... How does that make sence?

Well I'm still not sure what the point of this post was, but your comment regarding being forced to watch commercials on blu-rays doesn't make any sense to me. This isn't a new concept. The other day my wife rented Milk on DVD and we had to sit thru the previews and commercials because they lock out the skip options. I would guess that's a movie studio's call whether or not to do this, and really doesn't have anything to do with what format they put the movie on.

Anyways does it even make sense to copy blue rays yet? Doesn't a blank BD disk run about $10? LOL anyways maybe you save a few bucks, but it's so uncool. Piracy hurts the industry and it's the honest consumers that pay the price for that.

i do not see any problem at all if anybody wishes to burn a movie for their own private collection. i'm pretty sure that it is perfectly legal under the fair copy protection act of 1997 that clearly states that it is legal to make a back up copy of ANY movie for personal use. it says nothing about the rental market, (as in when you sign to rent any disc that you may not burn it), hence imo, this is a legal practice as long as it is used for personal use and not copied to make money on the users behalf.
