OK...I've been wanting to buy the Star Trek movies on DVD. The first movie I bought months ago (maybe a year?) was Khan, for $7.50 at Walmart...since then, I haven't seen any of the Trek movies at the Walmart I go to some of you have said that the stores near to you carry them in the $5 bin, not mine.

So I've been looking at Amazon...and at Walmart.com...and at DeepDiscount...at InetVideo...at JR...and all of them have discontinued the 2-disc edition for the movies...is Paramount doing this to sell the blu-ray editions?? Or am I just being my usual paranoid self??

Plus, what are you going to do serious Star Trek fans when you are only offered the theatrical editions of the movies and not the director's cut on the upcoming blu-ray releases?

For myself, discs I buy have to be on sale. I acquired all but the last "Star Trek" film in those 2-DVD sets when Amazon (& Best Buy) had them for only $10 each (special sale). Lots of extras along with the extended cuts.

Sure, I'll pick up the Blu-ray theatrical editions... at the right, or SALE price, usually a few months after they debut. The studios always drop their prices after the suckers, I mean "early adopters" pay either retail, or at a slight discount. I just wait until the big discounted price is provided and only then buy/add to my collection.

I bought the boxed up, evil set of ST movies a few years ago. The problem I have is I've seen the ST movies so many times, therefore, is it really worth the effort? It isn't like I'm going to lose any sleep if I never buy the Trek films on Blu-ray. I could easily wait two years -- by then Walmart* will have a $5-bin for Blu-ray.

I have the same issue with other Blu-ray releases. I could easily pick up "Reservoir Dogs" and "Total Recall" for $10 at Walmart*. Nevertheless, I've hesitated to buy them because I've seen them far too many times. Some movies, while I do find them entertaining, I'm just burned out on.

Tim, I agree with you 100%. I've passed on a few movies in HD (HD DVD or bluray) for the same reason, watched them too many times already. If I want to see just how good it looks in HD I'd rather rent them. For example, I rented Sin City (along with Twilight and Bangkok Express or whatever it's called with Nic Cage) in bluray today to see how it looks.

Even my favs that I have in HD I rarely watch...like maybe once, or twice a year. I have definitely slowed down a lot in my purchases except for the Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks, etc because the kids watch them.

As far as Star Trek on bluray I would love to watch them all in HD but I highly doubt I would buy them. I've already watched them all like someone already mentioned but I would still like to watch them in HD just once.

I will buy 1 and 2. The rest are junk IMO. However I still LOVE the original series, and will pick those up someday as well if they are an improvement over what I already have, of which i believe are the 2004 editions...I have never been a fan of TNG or any of the other spinoffs.

Hmm, I got all the "Kirk generation" treks for about $35 at deepdiscount a couple years ago(boxed set). They were all the directors cuts and had been digitally remastered. Sad to hear they don't offer them anymore. I hardly doubt the Blu Rays will look much better since these movies are not the benchmark in film quality as far as I'm concerned. I have seen First Contact in high def and that was pretty sweet looking(but it's much newer).
