It came out today and I was wondering if it was any good. The critics I see panned it but I never go by them. By good I mean enjoyable(it doesn't have to be a mind blower in scripting). Basicaly, is it a good popcorn movie for sci fi junkies like me?

I feel the same. The reviews are negative but my urge for scfi tells me I'll get a kick out of it.

Perhaps a rental?

Worth a rental, nothing more. It's just OK it never really tries to be more than 'a poor remake' of the original (which I haven't seen).

I think it's funny that they're packaging it with the original movie. It's as if Fox is saying "we know this sucks so here's the good one." Looks like a rental to me.

Let's see: overloud, overblown, CGI-love fest that doesn't have the balls to go through with its threat. It's about too many things at once, none of which are done well. Is this going to be an action movie or an allegory on the way we treat those who are different or a parable on what could happen if we don't stop fighting one another or a look at how totally brain dead the human race can be...?

The action sequences are just stupid and repetitive (no specifics in order not to "spoil" the movie). Fox crapped on the original just as I predicted they would. Rotten Tomatoes has this at a 20% right now, IMDb is 56%, Metacritic 40. I think the 40 is about right.

"Knowing" wasn't brilliant, but it went for the full monty instead of chickening out.

So terrible... not a good popcorn movie, or movie period.

I love the original though.

Mine came from Amazon last night. I have the same urge. I'll watch the original tonight and the remake in a day or two.
