Paramount pulled a MASSIVE bait and switch with tonight’s Alamo Drafthouse’s screening of Wrath of Kahn on Monday night. The announced line-up included some never before seen footage from JJ Abrams Star Trek followed by Star Trek II: Wrath of Kahn. Guess what… They didn’t show Kahn at all… The Austin Texas audience because the first audience to see the entire new Star Trek film. Leonard Nimoy, Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci were in attandance. I’m so jealous!

Apparently the reviews are really, REALLY good although they were probably very excited about the whole experience.

Yep lots of glowing reviews, but really think we need a more objective audience than a group of devoted Trekkers. But still sounds promising, hopefully this is the kick the franchise needs, we need another GREAT Trek movie!

Where was Austin's native son and most devoted fan when all this was happening? Eddie? Eddie?

The new Star Trek film is getting great reviews...

Out of this world!

Quote:
The short answer is that J.J. Abrams had come up with a tremendous idea, inspired no doubt by the success of Batman Begins and Casino Royale, both of which had reinvigorated tired franchises by recasting and going back to basics.
The result is not only by far the best of the 11 Star Trek movies, it must rank as the outstanding prequel of all time.

There's only 7 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes so far, but they're all fresh baby!

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/star_trek_11/

Film Critic Orlando Parfitt of IGN Movies UK is the only one to say something negative, but yet he still gave it a fresh tomato. Read his review and you get the impression he really didn't care for it all that much. Why he gave it a 7/10 is beyond me -- his review reads like he would give it a 5/10, go figure! In brief, he thinks the plot was a mess and was hoping it would be more like "Transformers". Of course, there is already 12 comments from readers slamming his review.

^ I liked Transformers for the big action spectacles. I don't recall praising the plot...
