Lord of the Rings in Blu-Ray on Amazon.com now!

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000X9FLKM?tag=dvdtown-20
Pre-order, theatrical, $69.99 for the trilogy.

I don't have HD, and I would wait until EE, but here is progress!

This is, indeed, good news because it hints at progress toward a real BD release. But Amazon's announcement does not give a release date, probably because Warners/New Line have not formally announced it yet. My guess is a release toward the end of the year, maybe even next, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed, too.

And not everybody is convinced that the extended editions are better than the theatrical editions just because they're longer. More is not always better.

I liked LOTR-EE better, especially FOTR.

HUH? And what would these titles that we already have in our collections be if they are not real BD's?

..and in the case of LOTR, the extended versions are better imo, however taxing and best watched as "two parters".

Yeah, I'm going to have to go with extended, directors cuts on these. I'm not even going to bother until those are released. What's odd is I really was not all that excited when the first film hit the theatre. I really didn't get all they hype before hand, but I was amazed how good they all came out. Therefore, the extended versions work much better for me and I'll wait in the wings until they are released.

Extended for me too. The theatricals are good but there are some scenes in the Extended Editions that really complete the story for me.

I read most likely this Christmas, with the EE's coming when The Hobbit is all done. This set will supposedly be featureless Jackson is saving everything (plus some) for the EE's. Let's just hope both versions of the movies are included on the super duper mega kitchen sink set.

This set is on a Warner list of Buy 5, Get 1 Free which expires in April 6, 2010. So it has to be out absolutely no later than 4/6/10.

Jason, holding out for the big set
