This will be the last year that PIONEER makes televisions. The industry leader in performance has called it quits due to increased competition from the melting pot of "Why should I buy this when I have hundreds of other flat panels to choose for thousands less?" syndrome. The Pioneer Kuro line is generally regarded as the best in the industry however could not compete with nine hundred dollar lcd/plasma sets from various manufactures. Vizio is also calling it quits on all plasma panels. The word on the street is that plasma cannot compete in the showroom next to bright LCD monitors. Experts fear that the death of the Kuro line will stagnate the development of better sets in the future due to the lack of competition.

Yeah, actually I worded that wrong.

I didnt feel like going upstairs and getting the magazine article that stated the jist of the information due to laziness. However I will quote if I must after this girl makes me eggs.

But why bother...Kuro is dead. Vizeo is pulling out of the plasma market which is probably the worst news due to the popularity/price of that brand. Basicly the article was in fear of cheap sets taking over the planet and hinted at buying front projection due to the performance/price ratio of those. I personally am happy with my set, and never had any intentions of replacing it soon anyway. I was just passing along information.

What I really need is a BBQ. A beer truck and smoke on the water sounds fantastic right about now.

Um, this is not "news" really, the pioneer announcement came out a few months ago. And if i am not mistaken, they're not gonna stop selling plasmas, their just outsourcing the panel manufacturing.

The Kuro Series always were a niche tapping into the market for top-knotch performance series. Here too the electronic shops are filled with 900 bucks 42inch samsung sets, but quite literally, im tired of walking into peoples homes looking at these black panels displaying a low-contrast non-bright, flat images. And it's not because these people are not calibrating them, most stores send over someone that knows how to calibrate the set according to the room light. The panels are just not good enough. But hey, in these times of financial crisis, it's no wonder people go for the cheap' n' big.

Old news, BR.

KURO is still the best. I have two (a 50" and a 60"). I look forward to years of unsurpassed enjoyment.

If folks were smart, they'd try to snag a KURO before they are all gone.

The real reason why Pioneer is pulling out of the plasma market is due to the wacked out eco freaks who feel that everything that requires power is harming the planet. Why is it always the few that feel they need to take everything away from the many? This started in Europe and what do you know here it is here in the U.S. I own to Pioneer plasma's (50,60) they are the best. Sorry to see them out of the business.

UHH..This is not "old" news. Pioneer is getting out of the television buisness alltogether...They are not going to be outsourcing anything to Panasonic. This is the last year for Kuro period.
