Bullshit. I'll believe it when I see it. Without competition (i.e. HDDVD), BluRay will continue to cost too much, and people will not adopt it.

I seem to recall that the Allies found Japanese soldiers on isolated islands in the Pacific still fighting World War II years after it had ended. They never knew.

That may not be as close as some hope or imagine.

3D is fighting a format war of its own at the moment. The various film companies and electronic manufacturers are trying to agree on a single format.

However, my guess is that if they can get the technology right and make it work it could be a big deal for Blu-ray. Mainly because it seems to have the edge over download on this one. Compression artifacts and noise found on downloads could prove a problem for proper 3D.

All that said. We are talking 2010/2011 at the earliest before 3D will start to pick up.

I hope so, however 2010/2011 is relatively close for one of the early developers to pull the plug.

For them to abandon research suggests its either further away than the next couple of years or Philips are cost cutting along with everyone else. If the latter is the case then it doesn't bode well for innovation.

How about the millions of morons who fly confederate flags?

Rich,

Now that is pretty funny! You can see that every now and then in Florida.

In my hood, we had a neighbor on my street that proudly hung their confederate flag on their front window, and I live in freaking Arizona! It stayed up for a few weeks before it came down. I'm sure people complained to the HOA, and I have no doubt it offended the African Americans we have in the hood. The confederate flag is such a racist symbol that I can't believe the entire country has not outlawed it! I'm sure all the bleeding heart right wingers would cry "freedom of expression", or just that we're having or freedoms taken away. Well, let me clue you in on something . . . there's this thing in life called "responsibility" and in order to be responsible for yourself and others, some freedoms must be sacrificed. Besides, we've had a "free-for-all" over the past eight-years and look where it got us! Freedom is overrated!

I wonder if the Dukes of Hazzard TV show ever gets remade if the car will have the confederate flag on it.

About the thread, I hope this 25% drop in prices really happens because I would really like to get a Panasonic BD60 or BD80 but I don't want to pay $400 for it. No way.

I was just thinking about the latest Dukes of Hazzard movie. That scene where they drove into "Da Hood" and payed the consequences for having the General Lee and its confederate flag plus the fact they had black dust on their faces from the lab they had just caused an explosion in. That was pretty funny.

I got my dmp-bd60 for $245. It's a beaut and has had no hiccups yet. So I don't know where you shop but $400 is pretty high even for the dmp-bd80.
