DVD fanatics,
Did anyone buy Ghost in the shell 2 disc edition last week? I assumed that this DVD release will be superior to the older one. However, I was disappointed to find the audio in DTS mode was not upto the current standards. I found audio coming mostly from the center channel even in the action scenes. The surrond channel was down for most part - less dynamic as compared to the fron channels. I have heard better audio tracks but this one was bad. The audio coming from the center channel sounded flat like Lars beating on the tin cans (St. Anger). Did anyone notice this problem? Or is my system not proeperly tuned. Also in the chapter 10, I noticed an image shake. Any ideas?

Ranjan,
Well, what about the Dolby Digital mixes? Are they also center-channel heavy? If yes, then it's more an issue with how the mixes were created rather than an out-and-out defect/glitch.

Eddie, I have to check on that. If this is the way mix was created then it is really bad. Don't you think?

Well, it just means that the sound engineers didn't spend a lot of time on it or didn't care about expanding the sound stage.

How was the audio in the previous release?

Ranjan,
It was front-heavy, too. The movie was created during the early days of digital surround sound, and it's possible that for the new DVD, they kept the original mix's characteristics despite expanding it to DD EX and DTS ES.

It was released by Manga, the worst release company in anime. This sort of stuff is kind of expected :p
The worst part is when they deny their discs have these problems.
