Pearl Jam was and is grunge. Have you ever listened to No Code, Yield, Binaural, and Vitology? Really maybe one or two regular formed rock tunes per albumn. The rest was 100% grunge. Pearl Jam themselves felt a little disheartened that they should make a few radio worthy songs just to sell records...

Quote:Pearl Jam became a key member of the Seattle grunge explosion, along with Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden.

Well if you must. Here is a definition for the word grunge:

Quote:Grunge (sometimes referred to as the Seattle Sound) is a subgenre of alternative rock that emerged during the mid-1980s in the American state of Washington, particularly in the Seattle area. Inspired by hardcore punk, heavy metal and indie rock, grunge is generally characterized by heavily distorted electric guitars, contrasting song dynamics, and apathetic or angst-filled lyrics. The grunge aesthetic is stripped-down compared to other forms of rock music, and many grunge musicians were noted for their unkempt appearances and rejection of theatrics.

The early grunge movement coalesced around Seattle independent record label Sub Pop in the late 1980s. Grunge became commercially successful in the first half of the 1990s, due mainly to the release of Nirvana's Nevermind and Pearl Jam's Ten. The success of these bands boosted the popularity of alternative rock and made grunge the most popular form of hard rock music at the time.[1] However, many grunge bands were uncomfortable with this popularity. Although most grunge bands had disbanded or faded from view by the late 1990s, their influence continues to impact modern rock music.

Sounds like Pearl Jam to me...

Here is my perspective...

That warm, fuzzy sound you get from tubes is simply the ability of the tubes to promote the even order harmonics of the signal under amplification.

The harder, more sterile sound you get from a FET or Bipolar Transistor is the inherent quality of a semi-conductor component to promote the odd order harmonics of the signal under amplifications.

Both do the job of amplification, but the human ear is more accepting of these even order harmonics than the odd order harmonics.

And for the "record", I will remain old-school...I enjoy the production of sitting down, selecting an album, mounting it on the turn-table, cleaning the record, starting the record playing and sitting down and embracing the sound stage.

To me, records are for enjoying...CDs are for listinging.

Cheers all...

Agreed! What's odd is how anyone would say they are not!? Pearl Jam is the exact definition of grunge, a huge part of the Seattle scene and the grandfathers of the grunge generation. Not only is it a music style out of Seattle, but it's also a lifestyle. Young men in flannel shirts, Bob Marley hats and most of them looked like they haven't seen a shower in three weeks. The girls were not much different. It's like the lifestyle of a hippie but less colorful.

R-U-Serious,

Do you also still milk your cows by hand and wash laundry on rocks? Some would argue that the milk tastes better if lovingly squeezed from the teat and the laundry is cleaner if that kind of care is taken, lol.

Just messing with ya man. I cant stand records and I'm glad they are gone for the most part.

Just to point this out I bought the New Birthday Massacre CD online from best buy and it was release Tuesday, the same day it shipped. Used to when you would pre-order a cd online it would come either a day early or on the day it was release. Sadly it still isn't here

Yeah, the last thing I ordered from them took a while too. They no longer have their biggest competitor to worry about anymore, lol.
