Some glaring errors in this article which should be corrected: Typo with name Satyajit Ray (not Raj) and the fact that he wasn't affiliated with Bollywood for most of his movies esp. his best creations. Ray was a Bengali filmmaker and most of his films are done in Bengali language with a few in Hindi. Bollywood produces movies in Hindi language. Associating Ray with Bollywood is a blasphemy to the art of film making in itself !!!

I'm guessing he still made movies with lots and lots of colors, ripped off soundtracks, multi-genre scripts and above all, ultra-flamboyant dance acts... like this guy:

P.S. There's nothing like the energy and vibe of watching a loud bollywood film in the theater!

Ray is only mentioned to highlight the parallel cinema that existed in India during the 50s. Ray has no link to Bollywood whatsoever. However, new breed of Indian directors are looking at Ray's style and his vision. Satyajit Ray's movies had put India on the roadmap to Hollywood (Oscar nominations). Therefore, it is important to mention his importance to the Indian cinema as a whole.

Ranjan I have a question. In the movie Moulin Rouge, the musical that they performed, Spectacular, Spectacular was that a tribute to the Bollywood musicals ?

Hey Biker,

I doubt it was a tribute to Bollywood. However, the colors used in the number are bright unlike the conventional Hollywood classics. It might be very well that the director is paying an homage to old Hollywood musicals in terms of intensity, enery, and production values.
