If you don't remember, I work in construction, drywall to be exact. Well last night at a trade meeting I went to they had a presentation on a THX (The George Lucas THx) wall board. Long story short while normally a house uses 1/2" board these boards ate about 1 1/2" to 2" thick (its made of 5 thin layers of wall board, One thin piece of metal and one thin piece of latex. But they will make things quiet. So for all you people out there who want to really keep sound out/in you can put this in. Though I don't think it is very cheap.

THIS is what I need for my next house!!! My wife can hear certain sounds down the hallway in the bedroom when she is "trying" to sleep. She's been pretty good about it and not making me lower everything, but I also try to be nice by not blasting it to begin with. She knows I want a sound proof room so this may be great!! How expensive do you think it is for one room's worth?

Thanks for the info by the way!!!

Well the cheapest one says for volume orders as low are 40 bucks a sheet. So I would say for the THX it could be 100 bucks a sheet or about 2.25 a square foot, but that is a guess. That is material only. Labor wouldn't be much it hangs like regular sheet rock. Its called quiet rock.

lol
That's just ridiculous.
THX lost that "panache" it used to have, even crappy 5.1 computer speakers are branded "THX Certified" nowadays.
There are sufficient and easier ways to sound-proof an AV room. The cheapest one being a layer of polysterine between 2 layers of normal wall.
Some people convert old garages this way by installing the polysterine and then building a second layer on top (room-in a-room).

Trust me that won't compare to the level of sound blocking these his stuff has. We are talking an stc rating of up to 80. I have never seen that called out on anything even government building where they want privacy. But also you might say that that level is really unneeded.
