Personally, this movie has turned me into a japanese-horror fan. Coupled with the original Ju-On (the Grudge), and paired up with "Ringu" and "the ring", it seems that this genre is hitting its peak!:D Hm.. do I sense a possible 6-8/10 for "the grudge"? one can hope...

No offense to any fans of "The Grudge" out there, and granted, I've never seen this movie, but, I'm curious. How is a little kid in mascara meowing at me is supposed to be scary? I really just don't understand the draw to this movie. Can somebody 'splain' it to me?

Walked out! How much scary eyes can you get before you get bored? The whole thing was just lame.

I just watched this today and found it very enjoyable. I agree that it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be and found that the film had it's fair share of cut-aways tipical of a PG-13 movie. But I thought the story was awesome and understood what was going on. Sure some things I couldn't figure out till the end because this is a movie that doesn't tell you everything up front, it lets the suspense build. Tell me you weren't shocked after the first scene, my jaw hit the floor. I wouldn't want to give anything away but personally I thought that this movie was better then The Ring remake. The story was awesome and the characters were all cool. There's no way this was the worst movie I saw from 2004 (I personally would give that award to The Village). But yeah I got more scared watching Unsolved Mysteries on ghosts then watching this movie.

If you're looking for a few extra scares, then you can't go wrong. Hm..maybe this will make a great Valentine's present, right?;)

I can't explain it. I saw it and it wasn't scary at all. Not much of the story made sense, and it had a laughably bad script. Stay far, far away from "The Grudge".

What the hell is up with this movie? It definitely gets my vote for number one bad film of 2004. The fact that it grossed above $100 million goes to prove how easily seduced people are by very old tricks with new (and very uninteresting) monsters.
90% of the film has absolutely no dialogue or music. This whole movie is scene after boring scene of a supposedly tense, soundless build-up to the inevitable REOW! MARK! HACK! SCRATCH! ASJGFABSGJAJ!!! It's just indescribably lazy scare-tactics. Anybody with half-a-brain can see every single screech coming a mile away.
Girl walks through quiet hallway while Hitchcock-derivative score slowly ramps up to the climax. Well it's not scary if the "scary" shot comes at the same damn crescendo every time. The camera stays focused on one point for minutes at a time and all the sudden a split second jump cut to some little Japanese kid who is the world's biggest Meow Mix fan.
HORRIBLE...AND THE OSCAR GOES TO...GARFIELD
