I used to watch his Kung Fu show as a kid. Other than that I saw him in Lone Wolf Mcquade and Kill Bill. Never thought of him as an exciting action star but he held his own in acting. He had a good presence in films. Geesh, all the stars I grew up with are passing on. Makes me feel old at only 35, lol.

Yeah, I just caught this on MSNBC. What a bummer!
I always liked Carradine, even though he was never the greatest actor on the planet, the guy still had a familiar screen presence and he will truly be missed.

RIP David.

Even though I always disliked that the network stole the idea Kung Fu from Bruce Lee and cast a non asian as the lead. I still thought Carradine had a good screen presence.

If the early reports of his death are accurate (suicide) then my thoughts are with his family.

Carradine was one crazy SOB. If early reports are true, it may not have been a suicide but a bizarre sex act gone horribly wrong. (The cord was said to be tied around his neck and his genitals.) Well, maybe he died happy. Who knows. Still tragic. Stupid but tragic, if true:

In keeping with what John noted above, I discovered the following report.

In addition to his role in the series KUNG FU, I've always been a fan of the movie where he played multiple roles - CIRCLE OF IRON - which I viewed in our local cinema a few times back in the late '70s (my high school days).

TRIVIA about the film (from IMDB):

Bruce Lee and 'James Coburn' wrote the original story with the intention of starring in the movie themselves.

David Carradine was originally offered the part of the main character Cord, but preferred the multiple roles intended for Bruce Lee.

According to a recent biography of Bruce Lee the film was intended to be shot in 1969 with Lee playing the 4 roles of The Blind Man, Monkeyman, Death and Changsha, and the lead role of Cord was offered to Steve McQueen. McQueen however turned down the role after remarking that he wasn't prepared to make Lee a star, and instead it was offered to 'James Coburn'. Disagreements over location shooting (Lee preferred India) led the film to be abandoned until after his death when the rights were acquired by David Carradine. Originally karate champion Joe Lewis was offered the role of Cord but declined as he was unwilling to work with Carradine. Jeff Cooper, a friend of Carradine's, finally took the part and Lewis ended up supervising the re-shooting of some of the fight scenes.

During the filming of the fight sequences, David Carradine's nose was broken twice, his toe gouged and knee hurt.

Wow, that's really odd!

Well, I guess I shouldn't be too shocked. Seems most Hollywood types are a bit strange with their lifestyles. It's still very sad, though. I always admired David's screen presence, even though his acting chops were never the greatest, but he was a well known presence to film and television.

All I heard on the news was the hanging himself with the wire. There was no mention something naughty was happening. Of course, local evening news probably has to be concerned children may be present in the TV room.

He wasn't exactly the most pleasant person to be around off screen (and that's being VERY polite), but still nobody should have to go out that way, whatever the circumstances were. He struggled with a lot of personal problems in his life so I could go either way as to whether it was accidental or not, haven't checked the news reports lately.

In other news... there was a report a few days ago alleged in a new book that Jimi Hendrix's notorious and infamous manager, Mike Jeffrey, poisoned the legendary guitar player with sleeping pills (and then wine), which led to his dying of related alcohol-induced vomiting. To collect on an insurance policy BACKGROUND INFO

(you can find many web news stories reporting this possibility on the web right now - such as THIS ONE).

That's truly sad to think some one would have poisoned Jimi. The guy was such a huge inspiration to guitar players world wide, including myself.
