Time to upgrade that browser of yours? Well, the time and reason has never been better.

A new program by Microsoft helps the 1 out of 8 Americans that struggle to get enough to eat. For each download of Internet Explorer 8 the software giant donates 8 meals to Feeding America.

You will support people in need and help web developers save time and frustration not having to develop to a obsolete browser (IE 6).

Wow, MS wants to get rid of the only software that has actually worked all of these years... No offence to web-developers, but if IE7, and 8 were't so slow others would change too. Firefox again is not quicker. I play around with 4 different browers at home, and still prefer 6. For the most part I use IE7. However IE7 does lock up at your site Henning, and so does 8. IE6 has never given me issues here. What does drive me crazy though is having to re-login everytime I want to create a post. And yes I have saved cache , and autocomplete is turned on. IE6, and IE8 work fine, but IE7 has always done this. I'm assuming its IE7 but whatever...

Anyways, I'll update the boxes to IE8, except for my win2000 box and my lovely IE6!

I just surfed the site with IE7 and it did not lockup on me.

Can you tell me more about the IE problems?

Also, if you want speed and the most compatible browser look no further than:
http://www.apple.com/safari/

A truly amazing browser.

Mozilla's Firefox just underwent a new upgrade, and it's finally getting faster. I've been playing with IE8 a little bit, but it seems bigger and heavier than ever, and I generally stay away from it.

I do most of my browsing now, including at DVDTOWN, with Google's Chrome. It's by far the fastest browser around, and I've almost never had a problem with it with any site (except in its early stages with DVDTOWN's admin pages, for which I still use Firefox).

Safari 4 has actually been tested to be faster than chrome. But yes, it is a good and fast browser.

I would upgrade to IE8 if MS would let me keep a copy of IE7 on my machine. From a developer's standpoint, I still have clients that will not bother with upgrading to IE7 . . . yes, there are still businesses out there using IE6. Therefore, I have a hacked version of IE6 because I still need the freedom to develop for that browser. The problem with MS is they don't offer their older browsers for us developers and assume everyone on the planet has made an upgrade to IE8 over night (the usual, "we know what's best for you" way of marketing that MS has been doing over the past five-years).

I decided to give google chrome a whirl tonight, and I must say so far I'm very impressed. All of the plugin's works o far and it has a few little quirks that you find in a MAC. I also like the spell check on all text. I'll try it for a week, and make a decision then.

Henning,

The problem with testing these things is that each company keeps coming out with new versions. Google's latest Chrome, which appeared just a couple of days ago, seems faster than ever and faster even than Safari. If they would all make it a speed race, I'd back the whole the concept of upgrades.
