I could care less about a digital copy since you only get one and once you format a computer you lose them all forever. I don't want my discs having a choice in the menu for this if it can only be used once.

Quote:
The way managed copy is expected to work is that a consumer would insert their disc in a Blu-ray player and the disc's menu would include an option to make a managed copy or the consumer might have to press some buttons on their Blu-ray device to make a copy, Ayers said. Once they choose the option to make a copy, the Blu-ray player connects online to an authorization server, run by a studio, supplier or the AACS-LA. The authorization server then gives the go-ahead to make a copy.

They have GOT to be kidding. This is just as bad as digital copy. Will the copy be playable in other players? No way.

This is good news, no joke! Come on, basically the studios are saying "they'll make copies of it, let's at least know what/when they're doing it..."

Honestly, this is way better than the digital copy, in fact, I think most of us would trade the digital copy for the blu-ray allowance copy.

I'm sorry, but I have to agree that this isn't such a great idea, if you think about it, it's a backstep from the "free Digital Copy" included in recent DVD and Blu-ray releases. First of all the "managed copy" applies for both DVD and Blu-ray releases, so this is NOT a Blu-ray exclusive. Also "managed copies" (as their predecessor the "digital copies") don't support all formats, so it may incompatible with some portable players.

Second this "managed copy" scheme doesn't allow users to make several free digital copies of their legally purchased DVD or Blu-ray movies, yet allegedly allows you to do just ONE COPY for free, which will not please those users have several portable players such as laptops, iPods, etc. or those users that "lost" their first copy and which to make a new one.

Because of this, it would allow movie studios to charge for every copy you make, could be the case that they will eventually charge you for the FIRST COPY you make, even inforce an expiration date on them, which defies the sole porpuse of allowing you to make a digital copy of your legally purchased DVD and Blu-ray movies, to use freely on your portable players.

Here's a movie quote of the day, that somehow I remembered when I read about this news (you fill the blanks): "They ---- you with cell phones. That's what it is. They're ------ you with the cell phone. They love it when you get cut off. Y'know why, huh? You know why? 'Cause when you call back - -which they know you're gonna do. - -they charge you for that ------ first minute again at that high rate." guess on which movie this movie quote of the day is from, cheers.

It's just another scheme to totally control and monitor your consumption of their product. It will tank, just like digital copy.
