Well, let me add some more BBQ rubbing sauce on Bay. It's only Tuesday and already 57 reviews in at RT - 17 fresh, 40 rotten, so not looking too hot as a "good" movie. Of course, the community of fans are giving it a freshness of 68%. Therefore, on the bright side, everybody wins here! The fans that love his trash get more CGI entertainment to feed the mere sheep culture, and people like me that can't stand Bay get another Summer of humiliating his glorious efforts. Nothing to really argue about here.

I agree with Poster5. This is not to say you don't understand movies and we do or vice versa. Some people wanna see more than chunks of iron hitting each other, and all of us like eating our visual "hamburger" every now and then.

Rotten tomatoes comment: It's a common sight on this message board to paste percentages from RT or "Box Office Mojo" numbers to prove a point. To be honest, i personally don't care how many people think its good or bad, or how many cash it made. I like sticking with individuality and not getting lost in all that artificial hype. I didn't say this to insult you in any way Tim, it's just a general observation

I used to take the same stance on the whole "individuality" thing, then one day I realized I got sick of my pocket book always shrinking in dissatisfaction of Hollywood trash. Therefore, I began to pay attention to reviews and comments from site boards and began to follow sites like RT, Box Office Mojo and DVDTOWN. I've chatted it up several times on chat boards with what most might refer to as Average Joe's, and in doing so, found out things about my own personal taste and how far I'll go to waste my money.

You see, I do care because when a really, really bad movie makes a lot of money, it just means another really bad sequel is on the way. To me the individuality route is too much risk. It's like gambling or buying fruit, you don't know what you're going to get. I like to read the "artificial hype", and in the long run, it's saved me a lot of money.

I completely understand what you're saying. I read detailed reviews myself AFTER i watch the movie. And this goes back to what you said, about discovering more about your tastes and opinions. I love discussing here or with a live person about a film, exchange opinions etc etc.

Like i said, i wasn't referring to you directly, some people post those numbers here to simply say "Hey, look, millions like it, you don't, ur WRONG". That's what aggravates me more. I mentioned individuality because i really get sick of mass hysteria given birth directly from the media machine. Some people's brains are so washed they'll bite on to anything and ask for more. If a movie like that makes money, it's not the sequel i worry about, i know me not going to watch it won't stop the bosses producing one. Cinema, and that's the beauty of it, is always a mirror of the society that it was born in.

All im trying to say is that when something as hollow and fake like "Transformers" makes 600billion or whatever, it says a lot about the demographic that watches this film and what is to be expected from that generation. And it ain't good.

dont let the door hit you in the butt on the way out......
i dont have any sympathy for bay at all....yes 1st transformers was fun and i was very surprised, i remember cringing when i heard his name attached to it.

there are 2 people from hollywood that get my backup, akiva goldsman and micheal bay....

both are hacks and deserve to have britney spears sing to them 24 hours a day...

I remember reading about a michael bay tirade last year. I was surprised by the comments and the behavior that I had heard about. It just seemed out of character for a big-time director. I thought the banter and silly verbal exchanges that are always in his movies was just his directing style. Now I am seeing that the childish and sometimes immature dialogue that pervades his movies is a direct reflection of his personality. He really is just an overgrown teenager that throws temper tantrums whenever he doesn't get his way. I have really lost respect for him as a director and as a person and I have a feeling I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Not to generalize but IF Michael Bay is a difficult director he is certainly not the only one. Hollywood is full of difficult, producers, directors, actors, etc. As long as they're not hurting someone in anyway, I really don't care.

What I do care about is the finished product. If the movie is entertaining enough than I'll watch it. Could Transformers have been better? Probably. At the same time it wasn't THAT bad in my opinion and the eye candy, FX, sound, etc were all top notch.

I think he's like Lucas in that he makes movies that are visually pleasing to look at. Story wise...well sure it could be better but I think it's just good old popcorn fun.

I think I disagree with every word in that sentence except maybe the words "I" and "are" which seem to be properly placed.

The worst thing about Bay (and Lucas) isn't the lack of story, it's that the movies are unbearably ugly to look at.

But that's why they make different movies.

Yeah, after seeing Transformers 2 I would say he definitely does need a break. This movie proves that girls, guns, robots, explosions, and cars are not enough to make a movie good.

Good news for Michael Bay. The Academy has announced that it will now nominated 10 movies for Best Picture next year. So he's got a better chance now.
