Mike,

May I respectfully suggest that the first purchases among your list might be "Dr. Strangelove" and the "Godfather" trilogy, both on BD. The others can easily wait, and you may even find you can live without them. The other classics, "Strangelove" and "Godfather," I'm betting will still be favorites when you're ninety.

Absolutely John. I recently burned through the Godfather Trilogy on Blu-Ray through NetFlix. When I get the cash I'll pick it up. Same goes for Strangelove on Blu-Ray. One of the reasons i've been holding off on getting it.

"Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai de Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles", but I'll be getting that from Criterion in about a month.

"The Birth of a Nation." It's pretty silly not to own this one, but I keep waiting for a definitive version. I suppose I'll buy the Kino at some point.

"The General." I need to shell out some money for the great silent films. I won't be getting review copies of any of them in the near future.

"Gun Crazy." So awesome.

"The Music Room" by Satyajit Ray. I've got a crappy VHS but it's not good enough.

"Chimes at Midnight." Orson's best? Alas, I'll have to wait for a Region 1 release.

All the Lumiere Bros. films.

Chris,

Are you referring to the old Richard Widmark film or the more-recent Drew Barrymore film or something I've never heard of?

Minor trivia: Keaton filmed "The General" near the little town of Cottage Grove, Oregon, where they still enshrine all things related to it. And Cottage Grove is where John Landis filmed the final parade scene in "Animal House." ("Stand By Me," "Emperor of the North," and other films were also made there, by the way. Odd that such a little place would be so famous for the movies shot there.)

John,

I'm referring to the 1950film noir "Gun Crazy" directed by "Wagon Wheel" Joe Lewis starring John Dall and Peggy Cummins.

It also has a young Russ Tamblyn in a very strange and remarkable scene which produces one of the handful of movie shots I consider the most memorable of all-time.

Eddie hates it, so you know it has to be good.

Wait. I'm pretty sure I have seen this, a long time ago. So I checked at IMDb, where it says the film's original title was "Deadly Is the Female." And the screenplay is by MacKinlay Kantor, who wrote the novel "The Best Years of Our Lives," and notoriously blacklisted Dalton Trumbo, who wrote just about everything else.
