hmmm, seems they ignored the existence of LED panels which stomp plasmas into dust... they should do a round two of this study and find that plasma is still underpreferred!

Probably because LED's share the same idea that LCD's do... Hmmm Interesting...

It doesn't take a genius to see the difference. Common sense is all anyone needs to know plasma will always beat LCDs. The general public just isn't as savvy when it comes to this relatively new technology and pricing can obviously be blinding as well. When an LCD gives me a plasma-quality picture, I will buy one.

Grossly inaccurate statement. I checked out these LED TV's from Samsung and I can tell you that my Pioneer Plasma still looks better. Even the salesman at the store trying to sell it to me conceded that the Pioneer Plasmas are still the best.

Now when OLED comes out, I may upgrade because that may actually be an upgrade.

yeah, but for example, samsung series 8 LEDs have at least an 8 million contrast, and 240hz... series 6 minimum 3 million 120hz.... hence the growth in capability moved along much faster. plus, the price of LEDs are significantly lower than what plasmas were when they first debuted.

i've seriously found plasma's underwhelming as of late. i was recently at a best buy seeing U-571 on blu-ray on a THX certified plasma panel, whereas closeby was an LED of nearly the same size, and "lesser" price, and i found myself far more impressed with an LED display... it really will not be long before there is a huge boom in LED

I agree that LED will see big sales coming, heck I almost bought one myself but your comparison of LED vs Plasma at a Bestbuy store should be taken with a grain of salt. I don't know if you're aware but plasmas generally look horrible in big box stores like Bestbuy, Costco, etc because of the lighting. When you get them home however it's a different story, ESPECIALLY with the black levels where plasmas still beat out LCD and LED TV's as the article mentions. I feel that is one of plasmas biggest achilles heels because when people see them on display in the stores they don't have the brightness and "pop" of LCD's and LED's so they pass on them.

Still LED and hopefully OLED are really making it worthwhile to look at upgrading. Personally I feel my next upgrade will be an OLED TV when they become affordable.

Yeah, but mine's bigger than yours!

Besides, it's a night-and-day difference. It's no contest. One is plain vanilla, while the other will knock your socks off. If that's your idea of a good time.

I'm just glad I chose better than anyone else and got the best there is, because spec sheets and bragging rights are more important than picture quality, anyhow.

Oh, and my Mac's better than your PC, and my HD-DVD player is better than your Blu-ray player, and my Nikon is better than your Canon, and my Audio Research preamp is better than your Levinson, and my Bugatti will trounce your Ferrari. Not only that, they cost more. So there!

And since most people sit fifty feet from their TV sets, which are mounted on a wall three feet over their fireplace, what difference does it make?

right on john. too many different variables come into play here when trying to make the case of one is better than the other. in a controlled environment PROFESSIONAL reviewers may be able to come to that conclusion however for the average person just wanting to watch tv on a nice set its a wash.

Moi? Mock? I mock not. I knock mock. When has anyone known me to mock? I mock those who would mock. I mock mockers. I mock mockers of mockers. I..I...yi..yi, yi, yi. Oh my sombrero! I wish I could remember the rest of the words. Oh, well... What were we talking about?
