"Those numbers would have been much worse had it not been for Blu-ray"

Why they continue to make such claim? You don't need a PHD in Economy to realize that doesn't mean that Blu-ray is helping sales and rentals, only means that those few consumers that are into Blu-ray, were once DVD consumers but know are preffering to buy and rent movies on BD rather than on DVD, yet if Blu-ray didn't existed, those same consumers would have chosen to rent and buy movies on DVD instead, and we'll still observe a minor decline compared to the same period last year.

Also if you consider that consumer's spending for the first half of 2009 in the home entertainment window for pre-recorded entertainment, which includes DVD, Blu-ray and digital distribution, was $9.73 billion, yet Blu-ray achieved $407 million from that amount, you realize that Blu-ray is still a niche accounting only 4% of total market, so it hasn't grown as they what you to believe, this is just the typical PR advertisement to fool people into buying Blu-ray.

Oh Eddie, I haven't heard the word FUD since the good ol' format war days. Brings a tear to the eye.

Just for nostalgia purposes I will post this...

Considering consumer spending has dropped due to the bottomed out economy, and as long as retail chains keep selling Blu's at the average of $30, Blu-ray will remain a niche market. Doesn't mean it will go away since too much has been invested, not just by Sony, but many other corporations as well.

Then again, have we not discussed this before? I feel a broken record coming on.
