What do you guys think. Should we go back? Is it a waste of money? Could the journey make us develop new technologies that could help us save the environment here on earth?

A base on the moon might be a good step closer to Mars, which is a far more interesting proposition. Of course, if we found valuable natural resources on the moon, we'd have Chevron and Mobil and the rest of the world's industries in hot pursuit.

John,

That is the problem. The human race desperately needs a re-boot if we are to survive our depraved excesses, but if certain resources are discovered in plentiful amounts on the moon or on Mars, the U.S., China, and Russia will be engaged in yet another energy struggle at the rate things are going.

If we are going to spend money we don't have on getting nothing done like we are now I would rather see this happen.

We have never been to the moon. Just give sixties tech. a momments thought. Are we really to believe that a live ntsc transmisiion from the freakin moon was possible at that time? And then ofcoarse there is other documented evidence that this was just cocksure posturing. I doubt that we could even go there with todays technology. If we could...WE WOULD. Why wouldn't we? Sure we can break orbit and hover a few miles above earth but that is about it. Once again, if we could go further then wtf is holding us back?

Things which make you say hmmmmmmmmm...

Some nice pictures of astronauts in fully lit sunlight,
even when they are shooting the picture into the sun,
or when they are in the shadow of the lunar lander.

I don't say watch Capricorn 1 because of the NASA conspiracy,
see it to support O.J. Simpson, so he can find the real killers
and unmask the real conspiracy down here on earth.

Kind of "spendy" getting it all back here don't you think? (maybe just bringing back rocks would be more profitable, as millions would spend big bucks to get a piece.)

{{ Besides, we have all kinds of oil, coal, (and nukes) that we aren't even touching.
SO think about it: If the oil companies drilled and provided 5%-10% more oil, the price would crash. No, the way for them to make a profit is to provide just barely enough so we have to bid up the prices. Just like OPEC does. That's why I say the politicians who are making much of our oil reserves off-limits, are helping the oil companies, but not the rest of us. }}

The lunar program was the most money our government ever spent on a non-weapons venture. It created thousands of jobs, united the countries' industries in a singular goal and inspired technological innovations that we are still enjoying and developing today. If that's a waste of resources than what does that make our over inflated military budget which benefits a few industries and produces a product that is ultimately designed for destruction?
