The mummy movies were very entertaining. They are not meant to be thought provoking. Sometimes I think you guys are full of sh** when you say you are here because you like movies. I hardly ever hear anyone talk about movies they like. More like this is dvdcomplaintown.com

wolvie,

That may be because you only pay attention to threads and news stories about blockbusters and other juvenilia.

That's complete and utter bull and everyone here knows it. I don't think any staffer has ever been shy about sharing their opinion of a movie, good or bad. I know I certainly wasn't.

Just off the top of my head, I'll give you reviews you can find HERE of movies I adored: The Dark Knight, United 93, Catch a Fire. That's three without breaking a sweat.

What you'll never find from me, or other staffers, I suspect, is a willingness to kiss ass or suck up to any director, writer or studio. Why do you think Paramount chose only certain online critics to see the movie? Those were the best bets to get good reviews out of, not because they're the cream of crop.

BTW, GI Joe is now down to 41%. Know what's higher? Julie and Julia. Ten bucks says no one here will be talking about it.

Jason,

Paramount's financial situation is dire enough for the company to consider paying another company to distribute its home videos, along the lines of the agreement between MGM and Fox. Sony is frequently mentioned as the most-likely partner.

I guess they can cook books together.

Chris,

Not meant as a compliment, simply a frame of reference for those who have seen Sommer's previous work and determine whether they might like/dislike based on that.

sean (...but if basing it on that is baseless, then i wouldn't use that as a base to base anything on...)

Wolvie,

I basically like a movie that is made well, whether it is thought provoking or simple, mindless entertainment. The problem isn't that most critics seem to hate everything, it's that we have a higher level of intelligence and IQ. Our hard working brains want to suck in information that can sooth our intellect, as well as stimulate us with a bombardment of dopamine. Therefore, we demand a little more than material that is only geared at the low-brow, average Joe. No offense, but some folks are just built different than others.

Jason, csjlong and Tim,

It's not just that you have no love for blockbusters. It's that you judge them as total crap before even watching them. That is what pisses me off. To top it off you will probably watch them on video anyway. These movies are well made whether the storyline or acting prove acceptable to you. The main U.S. based movie companies produce the best movies bar none. Other countries many times try but fail miserably. I've made my rant and am done with this thread(otherwise I'm gonna turn green soon).
