Even though I have been upset with FOX for the past few years, HD-DVD vs B-r, Tom Rothman for destroying some properties and a whole bunch of other things, and the lack of attention towards the quality of their B-r releases, I think what they are doing is a good thing. I think that redbox is good and bad. Good because people who can't afford to rent a movie at normal price can afford this. Bad because so many people are renting movies at $1 and the companies can't really make a profit. What does that mean in the long run though? It means that if companies start to lose profit, which they are, then that means that the movies they release on dvd and Blu-ray will lack a lot of the quality we receive now. Just imagine how thin Blu-ray and dvds will be on extras. I think it's unfair that redbox is suing Universal. The rights of the movies belong to Universal and no one can force them to pay redbox over their own properties. Now, of course these are bad times for the country in terms of economy, but redbox is crazy popular. I many people that rent movies through redbox and they only rent trhough them now. I would much rather go to Hastings, Hollywood video or Blockbuster any day of the week to rent a movie than redbox something. I can't even rent a Blu-ray through them if I wanted to. The stores offer Blu-ray and dvds and if the disc doesn't work for any reason I can always return it for a new one. That's just me though...

Actually, depending on where you live, you CAN now rent Blu-ray movies from Redbox machines for only a $1 (unbelievable, but true).

From DVDTOWN news last November...

> Redbox kiosks introduces $1 Blu-ray rentals! - (Hellboy II, WALL•E, Tropic Thunder among high-def titles)

I see those redbox things and laugh. I just figure they're for people that own "single-wides"

dvd sales have been declining for years. red box charges a buck a NIGHT for rentals. block buster charges five bucks for FIVE DAYS. how in the hell is redbox hurting 20th century fox's profit margin? seems like just another example of greedy thinking laced in stupidity to me...I hope their strategy backfires miserably on them.

Of course it will backfire - it's greedy Republican thinking.

I would never be too proud to use a Redbox machine. What a great deal they are. Wouldn't be worried about a messed up disc either when you consider Blockbuster rents theirs for 5 times the cost. The only reason I don't use them is that I buy alot of Blu Rays and tv shows along with Netflix streaming. One day I may try a Redbox just for the heck of it. Screw Fox...they are just looking for more money as always. It's as bad as selling water at amusement parks for $2.50 a bottle. Water costs as much as fuel these days, lol.

p.s. My local redbox machines have Blu Rays :-) Each of my local Walmarts have two machines now. Used to have one each. Shows how popular this new venture has become already and Fox wants to get their grubby hands in the profit for which they had nothing to do with or they wont play nice.

Fox just wants to cook Redbox's books.
