okay, after an adjustment or two i finally became able to play PCM 5.1 tracks on my system - thank goodness for the samsung bdp-1500 having the option to do so through my optical. i already have three discs with the PCM option - these being the fifth element, hellboy, and the rock. i am considering final fantasy the spirits within, which to me was already eye and ear candy on dvd, but i wonder what are other movies that have a strong PCM track?

(woulda got black hawk down, but i read the video was underwhelming, which is still a must there too)

300 has a 5.1 PCM audio track.

You were able to get 5.1 PCM through optical? I thought it was only possible to do 2.0 PCM through optical.

i have 300 on HD-DVD, so the soundtrack on that is sufficient to me.

i was amazed at that too, because i was reading through the manual again, and it had different options, and said if i had a DTS decoder that my player would take the PCM audio and re-encode into DTS 5.1. it's noticable that it's lossless because i test drove the fifth element that has both dolby truHD and PCM on the opening space scene with the ship firing into the planetoid (this scene has a lot of directional effects), and the rock towards the end with the jets flying around, and lemme tell you on that one, i was startled. both tracks played in 5.1, and i could tell it worked.

so, it may be a re-encoded DTS track, but the audio is noticably richer than that of normal tracks that are otherwise present.
