Yeah Movies Plus that will teach for buying a A30...

Really you obviously bought it for a reason. We allost of us here thought Toshiba had the better format, and it still did, as far as I am concerned. So why regret it? It not like the purchase put you in the doghouse or on bankruptcy row... F-ing electronics for crying out loud. I love my Toshiba players. They make excellent upconversion players. Better than any POS Blu-ray player. I still have a library of over 60 HD DVD's and still enjoy them. They are just as good if not better than a lot of the new "replacement Blu-Ray disk" available.

Good news for Toshiba realizing that the Format war has now ended, and maybe some of their advanced scaling and upconversion technology will benefit usm and save us from the crap already out. I honestly can say that Panasonic is about the only player worth buying to this point. Other than the overpriced OPPO.

I totally agree with the last comment. Panasonic has been the only player I've been interested in. The new update I just put on my DMP-BD60 is quite interesting too. It allows amazon.com movie rentals in HD. Sure it wont look as good as blu ray but it's a step in the right direction.

That being said I hope Toshiba unleashes a BluRay player that utilizes the CELL chip at an affordable price. Up to this point my HD-A30 still bests the DMP-BD60 with dvd upconversion. If Toshiba can do better with a BD player 'it will be mine.....oh yes, it will be mine', lol.

I have the Panasonic BDP-30 running through a Denon AVR-789/1909 7.1 rerceiver. I also have a Toshiba HD-A35 and a Regza 42." I am totally satisified with this combination, at least for now. I agree the Panasonic is a GREAT player but it is a bit outdated so the new crop of Panasonics and now Toshibas (I LOVE Toshiba products - even my A-1 lol) are very appealing. Let's see if I still have a job in the Fall and then maybe I'll consider upgrading.

As far as upconverting, I have been using the HD-A35 for regular SDs but since I have bought the Denon with its Faroudja DCDi upconverting capabilities, I don't see any difference between an SD played on the Panasonic or on the Toshiba. One way or the other, I'm a happy camper.

What a pisser, Toshiba is a joke. They BILKED all of us HD DVD supporters. They should have done this in the first place. This is just more proof that they don't give a SCAT about the consumer. They waited to see if Blu Ray would fly after they threw in the towel. Now that they see that Blu Ray is actually doing pretty good, and so they want to join. JOKE! JOKE! JOKE!!!!!

It wouldn't surprise me if SONY saw this whole thing coming. Take a brief hit in the gaming industry (because we all know that video game systems stick around between 5-7 years). Even if the PS3 didn't sell as well as they thought it sure did put alot of Blu-ray capable players in homes. Enough to ensure that the format will be around alot longer than the PS3.

I understand your pain IB, now if we can just get financial numbers on how much Toshiba gets on every PS3 sold. Hmmmmm
Just proves that all of these companies milk us.

IB, I shake my head at you. You do realize that Toshiba WAS the first HD format on the market? Right? I don't think that they were counting on loosing the format war. I do not think that they saw Blu as potential winner, until some deal had been put in place. So instead of going completely broke, why not fold. Yeah, it sucked but whatever. Did it end your life? Did it put you out on the streets? Yeah, I didn't think so. Enjoy you Blu's for what they are.

All things change. If 'ya can't beat 'em, join 'em. Nothing wrong with that. What really pissed me off with Toshiba was the wimpy lack of support for their format. It still mystifies me to this day.

It's not like Toshiba set out to lose millions of dollars and a good deal of face on the format war. Somebody had to come out on top. They didn't.

Now, finding a piece of collateral damage, I bought "The Skeleton Key" today on HD DVD from Fry's Electronics for $2.98. They still have 40-50 titles on HD DVD, all of them for under five bucks each. (And I see that Amazon sellers are advertising used copies of most HD DVDs for under five dollars, and many for under a buck. All is still not lost.)
