Henning, I hope you are kidding. Quentin movies seem to be highly overrated by fans. After watching several of them I just don't get it. Do people just love the fact that half of the movie is hearing "Fu** You" and the other half is blood and gore?

I like the genre more than I like Quentin. Not a huge fan but find his movies entertaining and fun.

Not sure what it is but I really have high hopes for this one.

I saw it this evening and I thought it was almost perfect.
seriously brilliant stuff, but dont expect ANY form of historical accuracy, thats kind of what i loved about it.
I wholeheartedly reccommend this one.
also henning! I saw that post you made about halo wars so I went out on a limb and went and picked it up on impulse, I'm bloody loving it so far! nice one!

Well, no one's going to mistake a Tarantino flick for a Disney family drama. But there's more to Tarantino than profanity and blood. He creates colorful characters, witty dialogue, and often breathtaking action. It's an acquired taste, to be sure, but it's one that fans enjoy immensely and that imitators have been hard pressed to duplicate. I'm looking forward to "Inglorious Basterds."

John,

Yeah, I guess it is an acquired taste as you say. His movies are hit and miss at the Box Office. Possibly you could call his work cult films?

U.S. Box Office
Grindhouse $25,031,037
Kill Bill 2 $66,207,920
Kill Bill 1 $70,098,138
Jackie Brown $39,647,595
Pulp Fiction $105,110,572
Resevoir Dogs $ 2,547,037

I actually find Quentin himself more interesting than his movies. It is cool when he gives himself a cameo in his movie(he always cracks me up). Always interesting in interviews too like when he was drunk on Jay Lenos tonight show.

Not to be picky, but your grosses appear to be for the U.S. only. Worldwide, for instance, the two "Kill Bill" movies earned over $330,000,000 at the box office (Box Office Mojo).

But, yeah, they are an acquired taste and not for everyone. The R rating and violence put off a lot of folks. But they are much too big to be thought of as "cult" films, which are generally considered small-budget affairs that attract a small but totally dedicated audience.

I've enjoyed pretty much every film of tarantino i've seen, I didn't like Kill Bill 2 and I couldnt get into death proof but after that i think hes one of the finest directors around.
at least you know you're getting something interesting or unique pretty much everytime right?
also he has an eye for stellar acting, Inglorious is a prime example of this.

i find re-play value only in "kill bill". otherwise, tarantino usually indulges in dialogue scenes that last forever and suck any life out of whatever energy his visual style generated.
