Splendid review John. After viewing the theatrical cut, first thinking I was pleased with the transfer, I started then to suddenly read up on what was up with the PQ and then I suddenly realized that maybe I wasn't quite blown away. So I watched the beginning of the movie again, this time being the extended cut, only getting to the first added scene when I sure did realize, "Maybe I was tricking myself to believe that it was a great transfer." Anyway, I do agree that there were plenty of variances, and that it wasn't a full disaster, but I do think we do deserve more than what we got. After all, we got both cuts, a great DTS-HD track, and an arena-load (yes, I'm referring to the Colisseum here) of extras! Gladiator is actually my second favorite movie, ever, and so yeah, perhaps we should wonder if it is worth protesting.

Yes, it is worth mentioning, because after all, there was much waiting and much paying for this movie on an HD format!

BTW, how does one get a hold of Paramount asking if it's possible that they go back and fix this up? Because I wonder by now if anyone there has noticed by now?

I rented this tonight and eh'..it looked pretty much like john described it on my 56" screen. Not as horrible as I thought it would be but certainly not great either. Not worth the premium pricetag.

btw:
I REALLY enjoyed John's deep indepth comments on the pq. I would personally like to see more of this on all reviews considering that is what I tend to read first if interested in a movie I haven't seen yet. Kudos.

john is about as good as one can get. the other so-called "experts" are mostly full of hot air and self-promotion.

sometimes, i wish that john weren't so modest.

A friend tricked me into joining by asking me to be a "friend" there. I agreed, clicked on the link, and discovered I had to become a Facebook member in order to be a "friend." Not wanting to offend the friend, I signed up. Then, a couple of days later, Henning added the Facebook and Twitter links to the site and asked us all to use them.
