I wonder if they carried over any of the XD-E500 SD upscaling tricks on this new unit. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

If it doesn't support streaming media, like Netflix, it will fail (IMO).

Not me I won't be buying it. My Funai clone (Sylvania) works just fine.

He I was at Wal Mart last night, and I saw where they are carrying a Vizio Blu Ray player for $148.00 Is this also a Funai clone?

I don't think the Vizio is 2.1 profile. Correct me if I'm wrong. I love Toshiba and would definitely think about buying one from them if either it's price dropped to $150 (very possible) or they included a Cell chip to upconvert dvds(at the $250 price). For a simple standalone player $250 is still too much.

I'm perfectly happy with my Panasonic BDP-30 for now. I do have a Regza TV and the CEC link would be nice but I'm pretty happy. I too wonder about the upconversion. The only thing taht would make me buy one of these (or any other one) for now would be the ethernet link but then I'd have to get off my rear end and run 100' of cable and I'm tooooo lazy. The price is certainly right.

I don't have a Bluray player. Maybe this is the one for me.

I would like to see it performance. So far no reviews. It is promising that Toshiba has made a valiant effort to make a decent player with good abilites as far as quality output. I'm curious to see if they aquired Anchor Bay scalers like they did in the third gen products of HD DVD.
