HI Guys,

I updated my firmware to v2.4, and now the player isn't playing certain blu-rays properly (e.g. Matrix 10th anniversary, 300 Special Edition...etc)

When the movie plays, it automatically shows the picture in picture, and there doesn't seem to be a way to turn it off. There seems to be plenty of people having the problem w/ this update.

I'm hoping that one of you may have an earlier firmware update. I don't even care if its the original firmware out of the box.

If you do, let me know, and we can figure out a way to get it to me.

Much appreciated......

Hey Cat I don't know how to answer your question, but that's not the first time I have heard that after a firmware update, the player malfunctions. I have a Sylvania (Funai) and there is an update for my player. But as long as when I put the disc in, press play and the movie projects on my LCD, well I aint touncing nothing. My thought is, "If aint broke, don't fix it."

Good luck, I hope you can get it to run properly.

Well, i think i've learned my lesson going forward, however, i still need to get it fixed....lol

I work in the IT field, and i've ran into Firmware update problems before, however, i usually just call the manufacturer, and they give me the previous update.

I called Samsung, and they told me that i shouldn't have done the firmware upgrade (even though the update was going to add divx capabilities). They also told me they don't have an older version (which i doubt). I'm not too happy w/ their support.

i'm surprised that there are people still buying samsungs. after the debacles associated with the first and second-gen players, you would think that people eschewed samsung blu-ray players altogether.

I'm surprised too. Most of the Samsung models BD-P1500 and below are fooked up in one way or another. I hated the 1500 and sent it back to Amazon. Cut your losses if you don't find a fix and buy a Panasonic DMP-BD60. Error free with all my updates thus far.

Also, when you update make sure that baby is hooked up to battery backup. Not worth taking a chance of power surge or power outage during a firmware upgrade. I bricked a HD-DVD player once for what I think was a power instability.

is this firmware a newer one? because i have the BDP-1500 & matrix 10th anniversary disc and i have had the PIP problem myself... ive had to turn it on, then off so it stays off.

im still waiting for the update that will fix that one skip that happens at the beginning of WALL-E... thats an interesting story!

my BDP1500 still works fine beyond those mentioned items. it just depresses me when others are havin more difficulties... makes me wonder

It was with firmware v2.4

this is definately the last samsung product i will buy. i was really dissappointed w/ their lack of help.

I've found the old firmware on the net, and i will try it tonight. I'm just hoping it will downgrade.

well, i hope for the best in trying to downgrade. i dont think i have 2.4 on mine, but i know my player goes w/o incident.

BTW, did you try to reset the player manually? that was a lifesaver for me.

hold down the stop button on the front of the player for like five seconds or so. keep in mind your firmware will probably still be in place, but it helped clear up playback problems i had (whic i only had to reset once... should be in your manual). you will lose bookmarks you may have and you may need to get your settings back into place. like i said, this is resetting the thing, putting things back to default, which to me usually tends to not be as bad of an idea when thinking of the occasional twitch
