Aside from vgchartz notorious reputation on reliable numbers I don't think it takes a degree in statistics to see that ps3 hardware numbers have increased since the price drop. Actually if I was microsoft I would be really worried because the 360 isn't such a great deal to the consumer anymore when you look at the ps3. And there are rumors as well about a wii price drop in november so it looks like the console race is about to really heat up. Competition is such a beautiful thing

Also when developers see the ps3 having more users they will start to work harder at making games that take advantage of the hardware.

The price of the XBOX 360 Elite has also dropped to $299. The only real advantage the PS3 has is Blu-ray playback.

After selling my 40GB PS3 ages ago and buying a standalone player (I have 2), I don't miss the PS3 in the slightest.

I think it is still just in response to the lower price. But give it a few months and it will go back to being ignored for xbox 360 and the Wii.

And again why is the new one not shiny? I liked the Shinny

I think Microsoft has to do the following to offer a competitive hardware option.
1. Integrate Blu-ray as an add-on and included in a new line of 360's.
2. Integrate Wi-fi into the system
3. When Project Natal launches offer many cross platform games already found on the Wii.
4. No more RROD (repair the reputation)

If they can hit all of these points I think they have the upper hand. otherwise the PS3 is currently the best option I would recommend to friends or family at present.

But I don't think Microsoft needs to do much. They have control over the "gamers" video game market. Most people will buy what their friends have. My brother is thinking about getting a game system and if he does he said he is getting a 360. and why? Because me and the people he knows all have 360's already.

Modern Warfare 2 is just over 2 months away. I can hardly wait.
