There is a place for 3D for sure. I am still not sold on the idea it is for the home yet due to the fact that one has to wear glasses. I viewed Coraline on my 61" Samsung and we had a good time but it was a challenge to always be focused on looking into the TV and the colors seemed to be off. I think 3D will take off when the technologyt supports a "no glasses required" type of viewing experience - until then it is a fun thing but not a "holy mind blowing awesome gotta have it now" situation.

Apparently you havn't seen the difference between stereoscopic and the old fashioned two color cardboard trash glasses. With stereoscopic glasses the image seems very clear with very little affect to the color of the presentation. Plus, the strain on the eyes goes away for the most part with Stereoscopic. Go and see one of the latest 3d movies at the theater and see for yourself how it looks. It's quite impressive with some movies. Home theaters can only use the colored glasses at this time. We have to wait till next year to see the theater quality in homes. The problem is that most people will have to buy a new tv to do so.

glasses are annoying and 3d is a gimmick that gets old about halfway through a film from my experience...
I'm relying on Avatar to change my opinion there...

Totally agree. When watching Coraline 3-D on bluray with the included glasses I was surprised at how good it looked but then the glasses started getting annoying and the novelty started wearing off.

Then I just went to the regular bluray version and watched that which has awesome picture quality by the way. Pretty much reference quality.
