Anyone up for this one? What about early reviews?

I'll be reviewing "Surrogates" this coming weekend. I saw the previews for "Pandorum" a few times now and it reminds me of another sci-fi/horror film from 1979. My memory is a little fuzzy . . . seems there's a character named Ripley? Some mining crew on a big ship . . . some egg-like thingy . . . a creature comes out of someone's belly??? Oh, well, "Pandorum" may not be the exact same thing, but the premise certainly looks familiar.

Yeah, I'm with Tim. From the trailers, this one looks a lot like "Alien."

However, maybe "imitation is the sincerest flattery," since "Alien" did it so well. Besides, "Alien" wasn't all that original, either. It was just a variation on "The Old Dark House." Substitute a big, spooky spaceship for a big, spooky house, a space alien for a ghost or a monster, and a space crew for house guests who get picked off one at a time, and they're the same stories.

I'm hoping to get my usual movie crew on board for Pandorum instead of Surrogates this weekend. They've already told me no to Fame...

Another movie that came to mind after watching yet another preview, "Event Horizon". Yeah, that's it, kind of looks like "Alien" meets "Event Horizon". In any case, nothing original to be sure.

Oh come now, Tim. My screenwriting prof always told us there's only 9 plot ideas out there and everything else is just a variation on a theme.

So Pandorum is hardly the only movie which borrows from something else.

You are right, Jason. "Spaceballs" did steal from "Star Wars", yet I still ended up liking "Spaceballs." I'll let you be the Ginny Pig on this one, though.

I LOVE Spaceballs.

And Star Wars stole from a thousand other movies. Magnificent Seven was a remake of Seven Samurai. Alien is Jaws in space. And Jaws is Creature from the Black Lagoon, among others.

I will happily be the guinea pig. It's a space movie and a thriller/horror movie with Ben Foster. What's not to like? (It can not possibly be any worse then Gamer or some of the other horse crap I've seen this year...)

I just discovered you can change your language on Facebook from English to English (Pirate). Just scroll to bottom of page and click on English link. That alone is better than any movie out this year.
