Do a search on ebay for PS3's that "won't read discs". It's obviously a huge problem and not with just latest firmware. They should be offering an extended warranty like xbox did and not try to get an extra $150 out of customers who spent previously $400+ for it. Xbox dropped the ball big time as well but at least they admitted it and took action on some level.

Wow, talk about a scam to make up for losses during their format war.

The thing is, this could simply happen to only one machine, and Eddie and I would still spread the hate as if it were a major epidemic.

Son of a...

Great new job. Great pay increase. Looking at a PS3, possibly, but with red-ring issues on the 360, and now this, I'm not so sure.

While it gets a lot of flack for not being the most up-to-date system out there, at least the Wii doesn't seem to have as many inherent problems as its console mates.

I will certainly be more gun-shy on the next generation of console systems. That's for sure.

sean (...death, taxes... just add gaming console failures to the list...)

Really the worst thing that can happen to you w/ a 360 is you are without a console for a few days. You lose nothing with the red ring of death.

If you have the money the best gaming experience is on a PC. Though you don't necessarily have the most popular games there are thousands of games for all genres on there.

I tend to follow this practice... If my systems DOES NOT need an update, I don't put one in just because a new one is released.

I have found that when they update firmware, it usually is to remove a feature not to improve them.

80gig with backward compatibility had no problems with the update. I am able to play games, watch Blu, and Fold with no apparent issues. I think this article and the latest Wii bricking articles coming out prove that there is no solid console out there - they are ALL susceptible to failure. http://www.gamespot.com/news/6230816.html?tag=dvdtown-20

At least Microsoft admitted to the RROD issue and took care of their customers. I think Nintendo is doing the same...waiting for Sony now.
