I have stacks of unopened DVD's in my theatre. I decided to take up a new project this month and work through my upopened DVD's. Since Halloween is just around the corner, I decided to watch a horror movie each day this month. Going to try and hit DVD's, Blu-ray, and maybe a theatrical release if time permits. Let me know if anybody has any classics that are a must view. I'm trying to watch horror movies that are older or not exactly mainstream.

Day 1 - The Kiss of the Vampire
On their honeymoon, Gerald (Edward De Souza) and Marianne (Jennifer Daniel) take a wrong turn and end up in a remote European village. They are welcomed into the castle of Count Raven (Noel Willman) who turns out to be a vampire. When the count and his vampire cult kidnap Marianne, Gerald must ally with the reclusive vampire hunter Professor Zimmer (Clifford Evans) to rescure Marianne and destroy the sect.

Wow. This movie opens with a bang. The first 5 minutes grabs your attention and gives Professor Zimmer one heck of an entrance. The rest of the movie goes from creepy to campy and starts to lose the fantastic Hammer atmosphere in the final act. Overall, I'm a fan of this one. I may have to squeeze a couple more Hammer films into this month. If anybody has any thoughts on this one or recommendations for another Hammer film, let me know. Can't wait for day two!

Day 2 - Zombieland
Fun. Just a great movie all around. Woody Harrelson delivers his best performance since Wag the Dog. Somebody give Ruben Fleischer more money and make a sequel NOW! This year has been a huge success for horror movies with Drag Me To Hell and now Zombieland. I may have to devote another day this month to catch this one again. Please, go see this movie!

Day 3 - Last House on the Left (original)

Based on a suggestion from the previous post, I checked this one out. I can honestly say this is one I may not revisit any time soon. Plain disturbing. David Hess goes down as the most disturbing bad guy in horror film history. This is one of the few films that made me want to take a shower immediately after watching it. I'm interested in knowing more about how this film came about. The documentary on the DVD was extremely interesting but I feel like there is more to be discovered about the behind the scenes of this film. Has anyone seen the remake? Is it worth checking out?

As far as remakes go, it wasn't half bad. I'm a big fan of 80's horror though. There are only a small handful of remakes that I thought were great. I did enjoy the early 2000's Texas Chainsaw Massacre as well.
