I recently purchased, but haven't yet watched, the Masterworks Edition of Ran. After reading these posts, I read Mr. Feng's review of it. I wish I had known about the framing problems and other shortcomings before I plunked down 28 bucks! That's really awful. I guess my copy will be making its way to Spun.com when the Criterion version is released!

is your copy unopened? if yes, then i would advise returning it. heck, if it is open, just tell the store that your copy won't play in your dvd player.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did unfortunately already open it, but perhaps I'll follow your advice and return it anyway.
