I just purchased T2 - Extreme DVD from Amazon. Prior to this I read that one must be extremely careful in opening the packaging of this DVD as the metal case can cause damage to plastic cover. I was wondering if anybody can give me some tips and hints as to carefully opening the case. I know one can call up the distributor to ask for a new cover but since I hail from Australia it’s a bit complex.

I have the T2 Extreme DVD with the metal case. I have scratched the plastic numerous times while taking it out of the metal cover. I don't think there is any way to not scratch it. I know what you're going through. I want my cases and covers in mint condition.
The only thing I can suggest is that you get an extra plastic case for it. I don't think you have to worry about it as long as the paper sleeve is in good condition. Or you can just take off the metal cover once, put it on display or on your shelf, and just use the plastic case. I don't think there is a safe way to remove the plastic from the metal. No matter which way you try to open it you are probably going to scratch it.
From a collectors standpoint the metal case will be worth more than the plastic case so as long as that's in good condition you are in good shape. They made a limited number of the Extreme editions with the metal case. The metal cases are out of print but you should be able to find the Extreme edition with the plastic case in most stores. So if you don't want to stress over taking the plastic out of the metal case you might want to pick up an extra one. You can probably find it for 10 to 15 dollars.
Since you live in Australia you may want to purchase the extra one on either e-bay or amazon.
Hope this helps.

I had both at one time but I hate having two DVD's of the same film, to me it is dumb. While I am aware that at a bit rate the Extreme has better video, I compared them and couldn't tell the difference. Plus, the Ultimate has a DTS track that the Extreme does not. Also, the features on Ult. are WAY better. So, I took them hand in hand and chose the Ultimate. The Extreme is a good buy for someone who has a ridiculously large home theater, but I do not have one.

Actually TGP the extreme edition has the best audio and video so I would recommend purchasing both (I did) to get the best of both worlds (audio/video & extras)

"Just don't put the metal case back over the plastic case." --Eddie
Yeah, but where's the fun in that? (The metal case for my "T2" has been sitting in a drawer for years.)

I used to have this DVD, but I found the Ultimate Ed. used and liked it a lot more. This metal case is hardly "limited", but it's neat to look at. It is, however, somewhat of a nuisance and a lame gimmick. I had to get an extra plastic case for it as well.
I suggest either you never put the metal case back on, or you carefully break it at the spine so that it opens like a gatefold so you can place the DVD case inside and then wrap it around and "latch" it closed (that's what I did). Hope this helps. (Check the easter eggs section to find eggs on both the Ultimate and Extreme Eds.)
If you find the Ultimate Ed. anywhere, I'd buy it. The picture and audio are awesome and there are MANY mor special features.

I've been doing more research on Amazon and on each DVD title they state the Packaging type. There are three packaging types including Digipak, Amaray (Keep) Case and Custom. T2 - Extreme has Custom packaging which gives me some hope considering that the Amaray (Keep) Case is the standard plastic case/cover.

That's a good question. If you bought it through amazon, odds are that it will be the plastic slipcover and not the metal one. If you bought from an individual seller you might have a better chance of getting it. If it turns out you get the plastic one, and are not happy with it, you should be able to return it. If you are really interested in getting the metal case there are definitely ways of getting it. You can go the e-bay route (make sure it says metal case in the description) or you can try amazon again and buy from an individual seller. Just click to go to the T2 Extreme DVD page on amazon and then click on 24 used and new from $9.49. The number and the price will be different, this is just an example. Then once you click on that, scroll through the item descriptions and you should be able to find some that include the metal case. Find a reasonable price you are willing to pay and there you go. Good luck and happy hunting!!! I hope this wasn't too confusing.

Thanks for the reply. So what will be the chances of me getting my ordered T2 - Extreme DVD from Amazon with this limited metal case? I must admit it was one of the main reasons why I bought this edition.
